Conference League, Quarter-final, Second leg, Thursday, 17.04.2025 at 18:45
It’s not quite halfway there yet, but the signs point to the semifinals. In our Conference League tips this week, we take a look at the quarterfinal second legs, and there’s a big underdog in the mix.
On Thursday evening, they have their last chance to advance. Do I have any hope for an upset in my Jagiellonia Betis Sevilla prediction? I admit: not much. But I’ll tell you why I think the underdog has some offensive potential and why I’m betting on both teams to score.
27 shots, 705 passes played, a pass accuracy of 92 percent? That’s what you call a deserved victory! Betis Sevilla won the first quarter-final against Jagiellonia 2-0 a few days ago.
Cedric Bakambu and Jesus Rogriguez scored the goals before half-time. At the start of the competition, no one could have imagined that the Andalusians would make it this far.
Two 1-0 wins (against Petrucob and Helsinki), plus a 2-1 win (against Celje), with narrow victories against rather weak opponents, the Spaniards somehow managed to scrape their way into the playoffs.
3-0 and 0-1? Things didn’t go smoothly against Gent either. Against Guimaraes in the round of 16, they drew 2-2 at home, then lost 4-0 away. Will they finally manage to win two games in the same round against Jagiellonia?
Since losing 0-1 to Legia Warsaw on the first matchday of the preliminary round, the team has not conceded a goal in the first half – but has conceded seven in the second half.
The bet “Jagiellonia will not score in the first half on Thursday” would still be worthwhile for you, by the way, as it has odds of 1.55 at Betano. On top of that, you can earn an additional free bet here with the promotional code “BONUSVIP.”
Since the score has been 0-0 at half-time five times already, a result bet is also conceivable, with odds of 3.10. The question of whether Betis is actually the favorite here does not arise, of course.
The odds of them advancing are only 1.04, but when it comes to a win, the odds actually climb to 1.80. On the other hand, you can secure 4.20 for a home win.
The bookmakers have naturally factored into their odds that the visitors could lose even if they are a goal down – after all, they took their foot off the gas in the second leg against Gent after taking a 3-0 lead.
As the Green-Whites still have goals to pursue in the league, they may once again be content to do just enough to get through. For Jagiellonia, this logically means believing in the surprise, which is not completely out of the question.
An international semi-final would be a sensation for the Polish club; no one really expected them to reach the last eight. The group stage was turbulent, with a very strong first half and a very weak second half.
Copenhagen, Petrocub, and Molde were defeated, but Celje, Olimpija Bratislava, and Mlada Boleslav were not—even though the first three opponents would have been expected to be a little more challenging.
In the intermediate round, Topola was eliminated with two 3-1 victories, followed by the round of 16 against Bruges. After a 3-0 home win, Jagiellonia traveled to Belgium, where they could afford to lose 2-0.
So wouldn’t that also be an option for Thursday? After all, they’ve already lost 2-0 away from home. A 3-0 win would bring huge odds, with Interwetten even offering 70.0!
Admittedly, it’s a different matter whether I have a 3-0 lead or have to make up a 0-2 deficit. With Afimicio Pululu, the Poles actually have a really strong striker in their ranks, who has scored eight CL goals. So IF anyone can turn things around, it’s him.
How confident will Betis Sevilla be on Thursday? Admittedly, the 2-0 win in the first leg was never in danger. However, word is likely to have got around that underdogs Jagiellonia can be really strong at home.
The Poles are still unbeaten at home, have conceded just one goal and have already recorded three wins, each by a margin of three goals. They also celebrated at home against Gent, winning 3-0.
Betis will therefore have to be on their guard, as they won’t be handed a ticket to the semi-finals on a plate. That’s why I’ve decided to place the following bet:
Both teams to score!
