Group G has shown that, from the perspective of Europe’s top clubs, it is possible to dominate the preliminary round of the Club World Cup. With two completely unchallenged victories, Man City and Juventus Turin made short work of their opponents here.
Although both teams are certain to advance to the round of 16, there is still a lucrative prize up for grabs in their head-to-head match. In all likelihood, the winner will avoid Real Madrid in the round of 16.
Given that the job is already done, there is naturally a fair amount of uncertainty at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
After all, it remains to be seen how heavily both sides will rotate their squads on Thursday: the issue of “freshness” could be crucial on the road to the title.
Despite these uncertainties, I am nevertheless confidently backing the bookmakers’ favorite as the likely winner.
Since Manchester City need all three points to win the group, the English side are likely to be far less tactical and instead get straight down to business!
Juventus Turin – Manchester City Prediction & Betting
At the end of what has been a rather disappointing season overall for the Skyblues, it seems rather risky at first glance to bet on a win against their nemesis of recent years.
However, the first two matchdays have convinced me that the Skyblues are in better shape than Juventus – above all, the Old Lady’s impressive efficiency so far is likely to reach its limits now.
But since Manchester is unlikely to win by a landslide, I have decided to add a goal scorer bet on the Italian team’s top scorer so far.
What you need to consider when betting on Juve vs. Man City
- Juventus’ goal conversion rate of 36% is the highest in the entire league after the second matchday. The Bianconeri have scored nine goals but only averaged 5.0 shots on goal per game, which puts them in eleventh place.
- With their 6-0 win over Al-Ain on matchday two, Manchester City have now won three consecutive competitive games without conceding a goal since April 2024.
- Group G (4.33) is second only to Group B (3.25), which includes PSG, Botafogo, Atletico, and Seattle Sounders, in the “Group to win the tournament” betting market, with Juventus and Manchester City impressing with two opening wins.
- Juventus have played Manchester City seven times and won the last three games, including the Champions League match in December 2024 (2-0 with goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Weston McKennie).
- Kenan Yildiz, who shares first place in the scoring charts with three goals, exceeds his xG value and has the biggest xG difference (2.19). He scored his three goals with just 0.81 xG. So far, he has an average of 0.16 xG per shot after a total of five shots.
Juventus Turin – Manchester City: Odds analysis
In the clash between the two best teams in Group G, Manchester City is not only my personal favorite, but also the bookmakers’ favorite.
The Premier League club has yet to concede a goal in the Club World Cup. Juventus is at the top of the group with nine goals and one goal conceded ahead of the game.
However, our artificial intelligence does not seem to see any room for more clean sheets in the duel between the two top teams. Instead, we recommend “BTS” – for example, at the bookmaker Betano, where the odds are a neat 1.70.
If a Juve Man City AI tip that both teams will score is only logical in my view, the next betting suggestion is, in a sense, a logical continuation.
If both teams indulge in some merry goal-scoring, the barrier of over 2.5 goals will quickly be broken at a slightly more attractive odds of 1.80.
The third Juventus Manchester City AI prediction also seems to lack originality – but the high probability of it coming in quickly makes up for this flaw.
A goal from Erling Haaland at any point in the game shouldn’t be a big deal, even against the Old Lady, and the prospect of doubling the bet is absolutely fine in my opinion!
The best odds for Juventus vs. Manchester City
Considering that Manchester City lost all of their last three competitive matches against the Italian record champions, the bookmakers don’t seem to have much to offer Skyblues fans at first glance.
However, I hope I have convincingly demonstrated in my Juventus Man City tip that it can be worthwhile to back the Citizens despite the odds not even reaching the 2.00 mark.
Nevertheless, I cannot deny that the bets on Juventus are more likely to offer value.
While I think the draw at 3.7 is still within the average range, I can’t blame anyone who tries their luck with “tip 1” at odds of almost 5.00…
Juventus vs. Manchester City match analysis:
A duel worthy of the Champions League is shaping up to be the big preliminary round finale in Group G of the Club World Cup.
Juventus and Manchester City are facing each other in the battle for first place, and this game will be an important test before the knockout phase.
Both teams have already qualified for the round of 16, but first place could pave a more favorable path for each of them. A win here would likely mean avoiding defending champions Real Madrid in the round of 16, assuming, of course, that Real finishes in first place.
Juventus has shown no mercy so far, establishing a 9-1 goal difference in two games. However, the one goal conceded is cause for concern, as it came in a game in which the Bianconeri conceded 1.18 xGA.
Wydad had 15 shots on goal, six of which were on target, which La Vecchia Signora should not have allowed.
City has fared just as well in an otherwise easy group. The Citizens have been slightly better defensively, not conceding a single goal in two games. Pep Guardiola’s side are the only team not to have conceded a goal so far.
Most importantly, however, the English side have only conceded 0.9 xGA, behind only Bayern Munich and Benfica, who have both already conceded goals.
Neither team will want to overexert themselves before the round of 16, but a favorable tournament path, the psychological advantage, and maintaining momentum are reason enough to push for victory.
Juventus Turin form check
The Old Lady is one of the outstanding teams in this competition. Their efficiency in front of goal is impressive.
The Bianconeri have scored nine goals from just five shots on target per game. With a conversion rate of 36%, they currently top the corresponding ranking.
Kenan Yildiz stands out as the most efficient player in attack. He leads the scoring charts with three goals. Interestingly, he is only third in the xG rankings (0.7) behind Dusan Vlahovic (0.8) and Randal Kolo Muani (1.6).
Despite their impressive performances in attack, Juventus owe their positive goal difference mainly to their goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio. Despite conceding one goal, he saved 10 out of 11 shots on goal.
Controlling the tempo will be crucial against the Citizens. Both teams like to play with the ball, so losing possession could be problematic for both sides.
Juventus had an average possession of 63.3%, but with City in better form, they will need to adapt. Against this backdrop, Igor Tudor could opt for quick transitions and counterattacks to disrupt City’s possession dominance.
Manchester City form check
Just like their opponents, Man City have comfortably topped Group G with their usual control and tactical discipline. After a solid 2-0 win against Wydad, City went one better against Al-Ain, beating their opponents 6-0.
After a difficult period, City have now returned to their usual ball control and territorial dominance. City has an average possession rate of 70.8%, putting them fourth in the competition so far.
As a result, the Skyblues have conceded only five shots on goal in two games. They have limited their opponents to a total of 0.9 xGA, putting them behind only Bayern Munich and Benfica.
Erling Haaland is still searching for his best form. So far, he has scored one goal and provided one assist. Ilkay Gündogan (0.8 xG) has scored twice, although Haaland (2.2 xG) has the most expected goals.
Apart from Haaland, we can also expect more from Manchester City’s other attacking heroes such as Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku, Claudio Echeverry, and Rayan Cherki. All of them have scored so far and will play a key role against Juventus.
Interestingly, both Oscar Bobb and Echeverry scored their goals with only 0.1 xG, while Cherki scored with only 0.2 xG. The clash against Juventus will be a real test for the offense and the defense, which has been almost impenetrable so far.
