Champions League, Qualification, Matchday 2, First Leg, Tuesday, 22.07.2025 at 20:30
New round, new luck! There are still a few weeks to go before the Champions League kicks off its newly formed group stage, but our Champions League qualifying tips are already in full swing.
In the first leg of the second round, I would now like to take a look at how a top Polish club is performing after a poor start to the domestic season. My Lech Poznan Breidablik tip reveals why I am predicting a 2-0 handicap for the visitors – and why I am not expecting a clear home win.
We know the game from previous years: the participants in the early qualifying rounds of the Champions League often clash with the start of the league season. What this means is that they have not yet found their rhythm or gelled as a team.
This is also the case for Lech Poznan. The reigning Polish champions are starting in the second qualifying round, having kicked off the new season a few days ago – and both players and fans would like to forget that start.
After losing 2-1 to arch-rivals Legia Warsaw in the Super Cup, things got even worse on the first matchday. They lost 4-1 to Cracovia in their own stadium!
What’s hard to believe is that Legia had 75% possession, made three times as many passes and had a pass accuracy of 89% to 68% – it was just one of those games that seemed jinxed.
Poznan doesn’t have much time to recover from this shock, as the first leg of the Champions League qualifier is already coming up on Tuesday. We take a quick look at our bookmakers, who favor the Polish top club.
And they do so clearly, with average odds of 1.35 to 7.00. You can already place your bets on who will advance. Betano is offering 1.18 for Posen and 4.50 for Breidablik, which is significantly higher.
Incidentally, Posen was also the dominant team in the lost Super Cup match. Possession alone is not enough, so you can’t rely solely on individual class.
Breidablik will face Posen for the first time in history, but they have played six matches against Icelandic clubs so far. The record is respectable, but could be better with three wins, one draw, and two defeats.
It is quite possible that the first leg will not decide the tie. Against both Legia and Cracovia, the team conceded two goals in the first half.
So maybe it’s worth taking a look at Oddset. A goal, anytime, for the visitors is already paying 1.70. Where might the value lie if you bet on a goal before half-time?
The odds are now climbing to a fabulous 2.95! On top of that, Oddset is offering all new customers a great bonus option. Up to $100 is possible if you decide to sign up.
The visitors from Iceland will know that most people expect them to be eliminated. Unlike Posen, they also had to play in the first round of qualifying and did not get off to a good start.
KF Egnatia lost 0-1. But the club from Kopavogur recovered and defeated their opponents 5-0 in their own stadium a few days later. Breidablik scored four of the five goals in the first half.
This is the third time the team has attempted to qualify for the Champions League – and it could also be the third time they have been eliminated in the second round.
Unlike in Poland, soccer has been back in action in Iceland for several months now, with teams adapting to the weather conditions. Breidablik is unbeaten in six games and currently sits second in the table.
You might find this interesting: With the league and Champions League qualifiers, 17 games have been played this season, with 13 of those seeing no goals conceded in the first half. The bet “Posen will not score in the first half” has impressive odds of 2.47 at Betano.
Don’t underestimate the small clubs from Iceland! Breidablik is also one of the candidates looking to cause an upset in this qualifying round. Their comeback against Egnatia was impressive, and they are currently in good form in the league.
The mood at Lech Poznan is likely to be tense. Although their performances against Legia Warsaw in the Super Cup were just as good as those against Cracovia in the league, they suffered two defeats and conceded a total of six goals.
I therefore can’t bring myself to bet on a clear victory against the Icelandic underdogs and am opting for the following bet:
A 2-0 handicap on Breidablik could be a good bet!
