In the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, Manchester United wanted to salvage something from a truly horrific season. But in the end, the Red Devils suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat and are now left empty-handed.
With my Manchester United Aston Villa tip, this nightmare of a season will finally be over for coach Ruben Amorim’s team on Sunday. But what final chapter awaits MUFC?
The task against Aston Villa does not promise to be easy. The Villans must win on the last matchday to still have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

In the Europa League final against Spurs, 73 percent possession and 16:3 total shots actually spoke in Manchester United’s favor. But in the end, coach Ruben Amorim’s men simply lacked the cutting edge.
As a result, they only managed an xG value of 0.97. The Europa League had been the only competition in which the Red Devils had been able to impress this season. In the Premier League, there are only alarming figures to report.

On the other hand, Villa have picked up eight points from their last seven league games against Manchester (2W, 2D, 3L). The Lions had previously needed 31 games to achieve the same number of points (1W, 5D, 25L).
The first leg in October ended in a goalless draw. This is the sixth time the two clubs have met on the last day of the season. The Red Devils have won four of the last five meetings in the season finale (1D).
Conclusion: The defeat in the Europa League final was another low point for Manchester United this season. Can the team recover from this by Sunday and pull themselves together for the last PL matchday?
My answer to that question is a resounding no! The team wrote off the league season weeks ago and is now focused solely on the Europa League.
Now they face a motivated and in-form opponent who are still fighting for a Champions League spot in the final stretch. In the end, everything points to a win for the visitors from Birmingham.
