Premier League 23rd matchday, Saturday, 25/01/2025 at 6:30 PM
What will become of Manchester City and the 2024/25 season? The defending champions are having a strange season, and by “strange” I certainly don’t mean that their performances are exceptionally good. In any case, they can probably forget about the championship.
The crisis is also affecting the premier league, where the sky blues are on the verge of elimination. After the humiliation of Paris, there has to be a corresponding reaction in the league. On Saturday, they will play at home against a rival that should actually suit City – at least I am thinking offensively.
But what is normal in this season, earlier I would have left a Manchester City Chelsea tip probably with a clear tendency. This time it is a little different, because from a 6-0 to a 0-6, we have to trust the still-champion with everything.
The bookmakers generally still see the home side as the favorites, but the lead is no longer as big as it usually is. It’s a good thing that the guests from London are not exactly in top form either.
Ultimately, I believe that the difficult phases of both teams have a particularly strong impact on their defenses. That means I expect goals, at least three in all, scored by either side!
The betting providers’ prediction?
In the league, City have stabilized somewhat, but you still have to expect further mistakes. If you want to bet on a home win in our sports betting apps, you can do so at odds of 1.90.
The visitors have only won one of their last six games, and they have lost eight of their last ten matches against City. It is therefore only logical that they are the underdogs in this game with odds of 3.70.
I assume that a draw would not really satisfy either of them. However, since I don’t see any really convincing performances on either side at the moment, the point split at odds of 4.00 could still be a sensible bet.
Analysis: Manchester City vs Chelsea
One or the other might have wondered from time to time in recent weeks: Who will be the new City coach soon? The sky blues are sliding into a crisis that has not been seen in recent years.
Pep Guardiola was suddenly no longer untouchable, and he himself didn’t really know what was happening to him. While Manchester could be on the lookout for a new coach, the question of change in Germany is currently more of a political one.
It is incredibly difficult to decide on a winner in this constellation. In fact, I would be most likely to go for a draw, because I can’t see the broad chest on either side.
In recent weeks and months, City have squandered a lead countless times, as they did in Paris. Therefore, I can well imagine the Citizens scoring the first goal on Saturday, with the odds for this climbing to 1.63.
At the same time, my main tip is that it could all end in a 2-2 draw! City have already ended three matches this season with this result, so if you want to take the risk of betting on the result, you can look forward to odds of 12.0.
Odds Analysis
In international competition, the team is on the verge of elimination, having collected a measly eight points. They have never been behind at half-time, but they have already lost three times. Giving away leads is one of their biggest problems.
Does this phenomenon also occur in the Premier League? I remember a few days back: the 2-0 lead against Brentford didn’t last, and of course nobody was happy with the 2-2 draw.
Okay, last weekend City swept Ipswich aside 6-0, but before the blunder against Brentford, I honestly thought that the terrible crisis was finally over after the 4-1 win against West Ham.

Actually, Chelsea are a favorite opponent!
A bad omen for the Skyblues could also be that they are currently in a Champions League week. After the last three international appearances, there was always a defeat in the league!
In any case, defense is one of the big problems, with only five clean sheets having been played – but at least this feat was achieved in the first half of the season in the 2-0 win against Chelsea. There is a small glimmer of hope, and there are a few more hidden in the recent history.
Eight wins and two draws, eight clean sheets? No, the last few years have definitely not been unsuccessful when the Blues have been involved. 1-0, 1-1, 1-0, 4-0, 2-0, 1-0, 0-1? With one exception, the duels at the Etihad have actually been rather dull.
Going into the current phase, and I mean both teams equally, such a result would not really fit. Not for Chelsea either, where there has finally been a win again after five games without a victory.
The 3-1 win against Wolverhampton was not celebrated too euphorically, after all, it was “only” a relegation candidate that was defeated. Not a matter of course, because in their crisis phase, Everton and Ipswich were suddenly too strong for the Blues.
It is also interesting to note that the Londoners have not scored at all in their last few away games. 1-1 against Crystal Palace, 0-2 at Ipswich and 0-0 against Everton. It’s hard to believe that they had previously scored 11 goals in three away wins.
Three times behind, once a draw, the first halves of the last away games Chelsea slept through. If you therefore want to bet that City will be leading after the first 45 minutes on Saturday, you can get odds of 2.35 at Winamax – the Winamax betting bonus is also waiting for you here.
Cole Palmer has also had a disappointing few weeks. In the first seven games in which he scored (eleven goals in total), his team ALWAYS took the three points. His last three goals were only enough for two points from three games.
The fact that the Blues have only conceded once in the last 11 rounds is, of course, not bad. But since they have also missed out on five wins, taking the lead doesn’t always guarantee the points later on.
My tip:
Analyze Manchester City properly? Phew, difficult! The Skyblues are going through a tough time right now, and they also squandered a supposedly comfortable lead in the Champions League again recently.
Will Chelsea be able to take advantage of this on Saturday? Not everything is going well for the Blues either, but they finally won again recently. We know that both Chelsea and the Citizens are teams that like to concede goals.
That’s why I’m disregarding the direct comparison, which has produced rather few goals in recent years. The turbulent results of both teams encourage me to place the following bet:
Both score over 2.5 goals!
