Marcelo (36), a long-standing Real Madrid star, and his boyhood club Fluminense are going their separate ways. As the traditional Brazilian club from Rio de Janeiro announced, the “separation” was “by mutual agreement”. Marcelo had been playing for Fluminense again since February 2023, the club where he was trained before he left for Real Madrid in 2006/07 to become a world star with the Royal Madrid. Fluminense did not disclose the reason for the separation, but according to media reports, Marcelo is said to have clashed with coach Mano Menezes beforehand. It is also not known what will happen to Marcelo now. Marcelo won the Copa Libertadores with Fluminense last season, the South American equivalent of the Champions League.
