These are the Milan – Sanremo 2025 favorites
Who will win Milan – Sanremo 2025? A question that is anything but easy to answer in advance, as it is the first big race of the season.
What’s more, the “Classicissima” is even considered the fairest cycling classic, as many different types of riders can win here – both classic specialists and sprinters.
According to the Milan San Remo predictions and betting odds of the bookmakers in Germany, there are two big favorites for Saturday: Tadej Pogacar and Mathieu van der Poel.
Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck Team) triumphed in San Remo in 2023 – so he knows how to win at the “Primavera”. His form should be right, as we have seen in his previous appearances this spring. This puts MVDP right at the front of the Milan – Sanremo 2025 favorites.
This also applies to his teammate Jasper Philipsen, who won the “Primavera” last year. However, he has the statistics against him: he has not defended his title since 2001! Erik Zabel is the last person to win the “Primavera” twice in a row.
Tadej Pogacar is also named in every Milan San Remo winner prediction. But: His best result at the “Primavera” so far was 3rd place last year, but the Slovenian all-rounder has shown strong spring results.
In addition to the top trio, there are several other riders on the list of Milan San Remo favorites 2025.
Firstly, Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious), the winner of 2022, and secondly Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek). The Dane is a classics specialist who can also pedal fast in the finish. For some experts, he is an insider tip for victory on Saturday.
The Australian Michael Matthews (Team Jayco AlUla) would be a hot tip for victory should it come to a bunch sprint. This also applies to the two Italian sprinters Filippo Ganna (Ineos), who finished second in 2023, and Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek).

Trail, kilometers & Key points
The spring classic Milan – San Remo is the longest one-day race in professional cycling. The Milan – Sanremo 2025 route has a distance of 289 kilometers.
This year, as last year, “La Classicissima” starts in Pavia, a town of 70,000 inhabitants south of Milan. From there, there is a detour to Rivanazzano and Salice Terme. The peloton then returns to the traditional route that has connected Milan with the Riviera di Ponente for over 110 years.
As usual, the Milan – Sanremo 2025 route only really gets going around 60 kilometers before the finish. After the coastal town of Laigueglia, Capo Mele, Capo Cervo and Capo Berta are tackled in quick succession.

However, nothing has changed at the key points for the Milan – San Remo 2025 transfer. The legendary climbs Cipressa (5.6 kilometers with an average gradient of 4.1 percent) and Poggio (3.7 kilometers/3.7 percent) come 22 and 9 kilometers before the finish respectively.
These two climbs often decide the final course of the race.
If the Cipressa is ridden extremely fast, the sprinters usually fall back and then it’s back to business on the Poggio. Either a small group breaks away or a soloist gets away.
Then it’s a narrow descent with numerous tight bends down to San Remo, where the last two kilometers are flat to the finish on the Via Roma in San Remo
