There it was, the first defeat of the season, and Paris St. Germain promptly pulled three points clear at the top! AS Monaco were recently reminded that you can’t afford to slip up in Ligue 1 if you have title ambitions.
Now AS must strike back immediately, and a home game against a promoted team should do the trick – right? In my Monaco Angers tip, I’ll tell you why it could well be close and why I’m betting on “Under 3.5 goals”.
Under 3.5 goals? That would mean I’m ruling out a shoot-out, and there are of course a few good reasons for that. Monegasque are not a team that shoot like crazy up front.
They have scored 15 goals, while PSG have scored almost twice as many. There are a total of five teams that have scored more than 15 goals. Their current second place is more a result of their defensive performances
No one can fool Monaco here. They have conceded six goals, including the last two in the 2-1 defeat to Nice. Only in the 3-0 win against Auxerre and the 3-1 win against Le Havre did the team manage a treble.
At the same time, however, they have now conceded goals in four of their last five games. Four times one, once two, making a total of six
The 2-1 defeat against Nice saw them squander a lead. Has that happened to AS a few times before? Since it was the first defeat, this statement is automatically answered in the negative.
It may be a mini-series, but I still have to mention that Monaco have been without a win for two games. Immediately before the defeat against Nice, they only drew 0-0 against Lille, so one goal in the last two matches is of course rather slim.
How exactly did Monaco manage to score so many goals in the Champions League against Barca (2:1), Red Star Belgrade (5:1) and Dinamo Zagreb (2:2)? Somehow they’ve adopted a different style of play internationally!
Angers, their upcoming opponents, have only been away for a short time in League 2, so the two have played each other very regularly in recent years. At first glance, nothing should really go wrong for AS.
Seven wins in a row, one defeat from the last 14 matches, that all reads very well. At the same time, however, I can also see that 13 of the last 16 encounters have featured fewer than 3.5 goals.
Monaco like to win against Angers, but often take it easy. 2:0, 2:0, 3:0, 1:0, 0:1, 1:0, 2:1, 1:0, these results sound clear. So would a win to zero pay off?
Oddset has odds of 1.90 including the Oddset sports betting bonus, so it doesn’t seem that unrealistic that the favorite will prevail without conceding a goal. Speaking of favorites, the general 1×2 odds land at an average of 1.22 to 12.0.
Angers will start as the clear underdog in the Principality, which the returnee should be able to get to grips with. It got off to the worst possible start with three defeats, but the team has been selling itself better since matchday four.
Admittedly, the fact that they got their first ever win last weekend does not speak in Angers’ favor. They won 4:2 against St. Etienne, a fellow promoted team.
Angers had previously scored exactly one goal six times in a row, but now their restrained offense exploded a little. Four 1:1 draws in the last four games? That seems to be a clear favorite result!
I have to quickly check at Betano what odds this result bet would bring. With 12.5 you would be quite well served here, and after all, Angers also shared the points against Olympique Marseille.
After the 0:2 against Lille in the first away game, the following results were added: 1:1 in Strasbourg, 1:1 against Marseille and 1:1 against Toulouse – no wonder I would keep an eye on this result bet!
AS Monaco must show a reaction after the last two games. The team is perhaps relying a little too much on defense, the fans would like to see three goals again.
The direct comparison against Angers, their upcoming opponents? That’s exactly what it didn’t show! I’ve seen a lot of tough, tight results that ideally match what Angers are currently delivering anyway.
The returning team is known for draws, especially 1-1 away from home, and with three goals in four games away from home, the home side’s defense should have few problems. The bottom line is that I have decided on the following tip:
The 3.5 goals will not be exceeded!
