Portugal U21 – Netherlands U21 Tip, Prediction & Odds 21.06.2025

U21 European Championship, Quarter-final, Saturday, 21.06.2025, 18:00

The decisive days have arrived, the eight best teams in Europe have been determined – and the quarter-final matches promise to be absolute blockbusters! Experience has shown that the U21 European Championship in Slovenia brings to the fore the teams that also call the shots among the “big boys.”

In my Portugal vs. Netherlands prediction, I now have two extremely strong nations to consider. However, I quickly found a favorite based on the group stage and am betting that the team led by super youngster Geovany Quenda will advance – whether after 90 or 120 minutes.

Germany, Italy, France, Denmark, Spain, England, Portugal, and the Netherlands – yes, that’s quite a lineup! There have been few surprises so far in the U21 European Championship, with the best teams securing their places in the quarterfinals.

This includes the Portuguese team. The squad is incredibly strong, with Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon standing out at just 18 years old and already valued at €45 million.

The superstar has already scored three goals, making him a hot candidate for a goal in the quarterfinals. At Betano, you can secure odds of 3.60 if Quenda scores against the Netherlands.

The Selecao didn’t really start the tournament on the offensive, failing to convert their chances against France – and so a game that saw 16 shots on goal and 13 off target ended in a 0-0 draw.

However, the knot was quickly broken, as the Portuguese showed what happens when you let them work their magic in their 5-0 win over Poland. The score was already 4-0 at halftime, after which the team took their foot off the gas.

Georgia was no match for Portugal in the final group game. Portugal naturally benefited from having a man advantage from the fifth minute onwards, and so it ended up being an easy 4-0 win.

Four goals from five shots on target? That’s efficiency. Five shots on target out of 19 in total? That’s the reality. But then again, it’s not easy to find weaknesses in a team that has won its last two games 9-0.

Anyone who has been keeping count knows that Portugal has yet to concede a goal in this U21 European Championship. That was not necessarily to be expected after the impressions from March, when the Selecao lost their friendly matches against England (2-4) and Romania (0-1).

Incidentally, the Portuguese have never won a title in this competition, but they have lost three finals – most recently 0-1 to Germany in 2021. They have made it to the last four four times in total.

What about the Netherlands? Are we in for a welcome rival on Saturday? Only one of the last eight matches has been lost, which sounds pretty good.

1:1, 2:1, 2:4, 1:1, 5:4? Looking at the most recent results, there have been some real crackers. It’s also important to note that there has never been a match between these two teams in the knockout stages of a tournament.

Our tax-free betting providers have set the odds accordingly, with Portugal going into the game with odds of 2.20 to 3.10 for a win in regular time.

The Dutch have only themselves to blame for this deficit, as they failed to really convince me during the group stage. They shared the points in a 2-2 draw with Finland in their opening game, before losing 2-1 to Denmark shortly afterwards.

The pressure was high before the match against Ukraine, but at least the Oranje kept their nerve in a 2-0 win. Against the Finns, the Elftal were even lucky to turn a 0-2 deficit around and equalize in the third minute of stoppage time!

The match against Denmark showed how cruel football can be. Twenty-eight shots, ten of them on target, almost 600 passes, 90 percent pass accuracy, 65 percent possession – and still they lost!

If I add up all the shots, not just those that went directly at the opponent’s goal, I come up with a whopping 60. If this team can now find the switch to efficiency, it could be more uncomfortable than expected for Portugal.

Incidentally, the bet “Over 1.5 goals Netherlands” would get odds of 2.45 at Betano, which is a tip for anyone who believes that the knot will be broken this weekend.

The Portuguese are on a roll – stopping them is going to be incredibly difficult! The Selecao’s triumph in the Nations League also seems to be inspiring the U21s, who, driven by superstar Geovany Quenda, are aiming for the semi-finals.

Of course, the Dutch are also a top team, but they didn’t impress me as much in the preliminary round. In addition, they will be without Youri Regeer on Saturday, who is suspended.

All in all, I think there is more harmony in the Portuguese team, both on and off the pitch. That’s why I’m going for the following bet:

Portugal will reach the semi-finals!
