NFL 2024/25: Rams – Vikings
Will the Rams roll up the field from behind again? We are currently still at the very beginning of the 2024 NFL playoffs, but just a few years ago, the Californians were able to surprise us with their unexpected victory and subsequent Super Bowl win under Sean McVay.
However, I don’t think they will make it that far again this time – if only because they won’t be able to play consistently at SoFI Stadium.
Nevertheless, according to my Rams Vikings tip, there could be a small upset on Tuesday in the last game of the Wild Card weekend…
Incidentally, due to the wildfires in Los Angeles, the NFL has decided to play the game in Glendale, Arizona.
The Los Angeles Rams have shown in the second half of the season that they can get into top form at the right moment.
After nine wins in their last 12 games, including a game in which they were able to rest their starters shortly before the start of the postseason, they have established themselves as a difficult team to beat.
Sean McVay has once again proven why he is one of the best coaches in the league, and while he probably won’t get an award for it again, another playoff win could add to his CV.
The Rams already defeated the Vikings 30-20 in Week 8, which is certainly a factor that influences the betting markets.
Currently, Los Angeles has developed into a “mini underdog” at +1.5. This is a clear sign that many people actually have confidence in the Rams.
Minnesota, meanwhile, are traveling to Los Angeles after a disappointing loss in week 18. This defeat against Detroit cost the visitors the first place in the NFC and at the same time caused the team to slip to fifth place.
Particularly problematic was the Vikings’ ineffective red zone offense, which failed to score points on the scoreboard an incredible four times. With only nine points scored and a Sam Darnold who looked uncertain at critical moments, the team faces a difficult challenge.
Minnesota’s red-zone struggles have been a theme throughout the season, and on the road, their touchdown rate drops even further.
The Rams, on the other hand, are among the best teams when it comes to standing in the red zone. This stark contrast could prove to be the game-changer.
An exciting duel awaits you in terms of the output of the respective wide receivers. Justin Jefferson, one of the NFL’s best pass receivers, is the spearhead of the Vikings offense, which has recorded the second-most big plays over 20+ yards in the league.
But the Rams have their own “catch duo” to counter: Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are among the most dynamic receiving targets in the NFL and will once again pose major problems for the visiting defense.
Since week 12, the Vikings defense has slumped in terms of points and yards, after being one of the best in the league in the first half of the season.
On the fast turf in Glendale, this game could result in a real offensive fireworks display within a few quarters.
The Rams also have the advantage of their starters being rested in week 18, while Minnesota is challenged physically and mentally after the bitter defeat.
Tactical fox Sean McVay will also give his defense valuable insights into Kevin O’Connell’s offense, which could further help the Rams to adjust to the visitors’ weaknesses already revealed in Week 8.
Another advantage of the Rams is their strong final quarter. Their offensive efficiency (EPA per play) climbs to 9th place in the fourth quarter, while their defensive efficiency also improves significantly.
This extra momentum in the final minutes could make all the difference, especially if the game remains close.
So the Vikings can’t afford to keep Los Angeles in the game for long, because the Rams know how to step up at the crucial moment – both offensively and defensively.
If Los Angeles once again dominates in the red zone and takes advantage of the fourth quarter, the Rams have a good chance of beating the Purple People Eater and securing a spot in the next round.
Meanwhile, the Merkur Bet app offers you the opportunity to profit from the Californians’ tendency to step up after the break.
Specifically, I would consider the bet “Rams win the 2nd half” at odds of around 2.00.
Conclusion: Redeeming a sports betting bonus is worthwhile because the game will take place in any case – now, of course, at the Cardinals’ home stadium.
Personally, I see the Los Angeles Rams as having a clear advantage due to their strengths in the red zone and their impressive form in recent weeks.
Also, don’t forget that Minnesota had to give their all in the fight for the division title last week, while the Californians deliberately rested several key players on the last day of the regular season to start the playoffs fresh.
My Rams Vikings tip is therefore: Win LAR with HC +1.5.
