We know Real Sociedad as a team that is always a contender for the international places – but in 2024/25, things are looking anything but good so far! The Basques are sinking more and more into mediocrity, particularly weak in attack.
Now they have a home game against a team without an away win, so it should actually work out. While the bookmakers are actually quite optimistic here, I’ll tell you in my Real Sociedad Espanyol Barcelona tip why you should actually bet on under 2.5 goals here.
It is clear that Real Sociedad is not a club that fights for the title in Spain’s top flight. But even the most pessimistic fans would not have thought that after 22 match days, they would only have eight wins to their name!
It’s just not like in American football, where a single win (after a strong season, of course) is enough for the big win! The Super Bowl is finally taking place on February 9, and anyone who hasn’t already done so should definitely check out the latest predictions.
Currently, the Basques are in their most difficult phase, having lost three in a row. 0-1 against Valencia, 0-3 against Getafe, 1-2 against Osasuna – and the three opponents are certainly not at the top of the league!
It is above all the offense that is causing the team so much trouble. They have scored a measly 18 goals, with only two competitors offering an even lower total. At least they defend well, conceding 19 goals, with only Atletico doing better.
And so you already suspect it: games involving Real Sociedad are usually anything but spectacular. There have been over 2.5 goals six times, but that is the absolute limit. Furthermore, BTS is not really common.
Both teams have scored four times, and we have noticed this phenomenon three times in home games. 1.36 goals are scored on average away from home. 2.0 at home, that’s an offensive explosion.
Eight times Real Sociedad could score in the first half, but at least half of all home goals (ten in total) come from before half-time. After the 0-3 defeat against Getafe, the fans are actually demanding a reaction.
“Actually” because they know that our team has already lost three home games in a row, so a defeat on Sunday is not out of the question!
What impact will the Copa del Rey have on this 23rd matchday? Last Thursday, Real Sociedad had to play Osasuna at home, won 2-0 – but also played with an extra man for most of the time.
In the first leg, the Basques won 1-0 against Espanyol Barcelona, and they would be only too happy to take that result on Sunday. They have won seven of their last eight games, and I also count five consecutive home wins (all of which were quite close).
And although the home side are in crisis, they can be sure of the trust of our German bookies. Here I have discovered average odds of 1.60 to 6.25. Surprising? Not from the point of view of the guests!
Espanyol are currently two points above the drop zone and occupy a respectable sixth place in the home table. This shows that something must be going wrong when they are only avoiding relegation.
That’s putting it nicely, because the Catalans, along with Valencia, are the only team not to have won away from home yet this season! They have managed a measly two points and scored just five goals.
The 1-1 draw against Sevilla was the first point they have picked up since the end of August, with eight consecutive defeats in between. More than one goal? That has never happened.
This also explains why Interwetten offers a strong 1.85 odds for the tip “Espanyol scores during the game”.
It comes together: two of the worst offensive series in the league, both with an average of under 1.0! Espanyol are without a win away from home, with a measly five goals.
The hosts from the Basque Country are doing a little better, but after three defeats in a row, I have a lot of questions in my head. They are simply not scoring often enough, not even against the second-last team from Valencia.
And so I believe that we can expect a tough game of football on Sunday. Not much is likely to happen in front of the respective goals, which is why I have chosen the following tip:
