Three months before the start of the World Cup, Walid Regragui has resigned as Morocco’s national coach, according to his own words. “I resign from office with loyalty, gratitude and the certainty that I have served my country,” the 50-year-old said in a TV broadcast. The association spoke of a separation on Thursday evening after weeks of debates about the coach. Regragui was the first African team to lead the country to the semi-finals at the 2022 World Cup and reached the final of the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil last January. After that, he had already expressed thoughts of resignation because he was exhausted. Morocco had won 19 games in a row under Regragui between June 2024 and December 2025. Morocco will face Brazil, Scotland and Haiti in Group C at the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
