The Romanian national coach Mircea Lucescu has announced his resignation. The 80-year-old had been in hospital with heart problems just a few days ago shortly before a friendly match. This also marks the end of the second term in office of the oldest national coach of all time after a little more than a year and a half. During that time, Lucescu was on the sidelines in 18 games, in which he celebrated eleven victories. Most recently, however, Romania failed in the World Cup play-offs against Turkey.
