The last match against WAC was a real fiasco for Rapid: a clear 1-5 defeat that will remain etched in the memories of the Hütteldorf fans – something like that is not easily forgotten.
The two-goal scorer on that occasion was Erik Kojzek. The 19-year-old Slovenian followed up with another goal in the home game against Salzburg – his run is impressive.
Will Kojzek now score in his third Bundesliga home game in a row? To be honest, I wouldn’t rule it out. The youngster is on a really good run at the moment.
What makes Sunday’s task even more difficult is Rapid’s personnel situation. Several players are already out with injuries, including Scholler, Wurmbrand, Orgler, and Borkeeiet.
But it gets worse: with Burgstaller and Sangare, two key players are now also missing – one is suspended after receiving a red card, the other recently picked up his ninth yellow card.
These absences weigh heavily and make the already difficult task against the in-form WAC even more complicated.
The fact that Rapid has to do without a leading player like Burgstaller is a bitter setback – even if his performances have been rather mixed recently.
The 36-year-old may have had the weakest April of his career, but his role as a leading figure remains undisputed. Without him, Rapid lacks a central figure on the pitch.
In my opinion, all of this contradicts the bookmakers’ assessments in their respective SK Rapid Wolfsberg odds.
WAC should have been the favorites going into the game, but instead Rapid are being given odds of around 2.15 for a win.
