Southampton – Brighton betting tip, prediction & odds 22.02.2025

Premier League, Saturday, 22.02.2025 at 16:00

The good news for all Southampton FC fans is: It can’t get any worse! They’re probably already planning for the Championship, so I wouldn’t be surprised if my Southampton Brighton betting tip doesn’t spark any euphoria either.

The upcoming opponent may not be among the best, but his statistics are of course still much stronger. That’s why I’m going to tell you why betting tip 2 with over 1.5 goals could pay off here.

There are those at the bottom of the European leagues who know: Faith is dwindling from week to week, we can probably forget about staying in the league early on. A situation that I suspect also applies to the Premier League.

Southampton FC are in 20th place, have collected a measly nine points and are therefore already ten points behind the drop zone. Two wins, three draws and 20 defeats? It doesn’t get much worse than that!

19 goals? I probably don’t need to tell you that no one can beat that figure. 57 goals conceded? Of course, that can’t be topped either. Incidentally, the games we won were against Ipswich and Everton, which are certainly not high up in the table either.

At least they managed to keep their own box clean twice, which is of course little consolation in view of the overall statistics. As far as the defense is concerned, I have to say that we conceded even more goals at home than away.

33 goals spread over twelve games, which corresponds to an average of 2.8 per match! 1:3, 1:3, 0:5, 0:1, 0:5, 1:5, 2:3, the most recent results alone show what is often going on here at St. Mary’s Stadium.

In six of the last seven home games, at least three goals have been conceded. Is it worth betting “Over 2.5 goals Brighton” for the weekend?

I had a look around the Bet365 app for you and found odds of 2.62 – not bad!

Five times they’ve conceded exactly three goals. When does the defense start to weaken, right from the start or only in the second half? Only five times was the score at zero after the first 45 minutes, and that was three times at home.

In five of the last six home games, the Saints have been behind at the break. If you want to bet on exactly this happening against Brighton, you can expect odds of 2.10 at Bet365.

Now Brighton has definitely not been a favorite opponent in recent years, having not won in six games. However, they drew 1-1 in the first half of the season, with seven of the last 14 matches ending in a draw.

Fans and players alike must be encouraged by the fact that they have always scored during this period. Curiously, there hasn’t been a home win in this clash since January 2012, so if anyone is better, it’s always the visitors!

No question, the bookmakers assume that this will be the case this time too. You can see average odds of 1.60 to 5.00, which is no wonder given Southampton’s current season.

Brighton have bounced back impressively after the disastrous 0:7 against Nottingham, celebrating a 3:0 against Chelsea. The problem for the Seagulls is that whenever they look consistent, their little streaks break again.

The ten draws alone do not allow for a winning streak. When Brighton play away from home, the fans can usually expect something. At 21:24, the average is 3.5 goals per game, compared to just 2.5 at home.

The 7-0 loss at Nottingham was the first time the team failed to score away from home, so they will naturally want to show the other side of their game as soon as possible. Another interesting fact: Brighton haven’t been in front after half-time since the beginning of December.

It’s a damn difficult situation for the fans of Southampton FC, who basically have to watch their team go down without a trace. At home, things look particularly bleak in defensive terms.

Brighton are of course not a title contender, but they have a team of much higher quality. As the Seagulls have always managed to string together two wins in a row, but nothing more, they should now be looking for another three-pointer.

Added to this is the aforementioned defensive weakness of the hosts, which is particularly evident in their own stadium. All in all, I have come to the conclusion that I recommend the following tip:

Brighton to win by over 1.5 goals
