U21 European Championship 2025, Quarter-final, 21.06.2025, 21:00
The 2025 U21 European Championship will see a rematch of the last final in the quarterfinals: Two years ago, England narrowly defeated Spain 1-0 in the final.
Will the “Rojita” now get their revenge? That is, of course, the question at stake in my Spain U21 England U21 prediction. The bookmakers base their assessment on the performances in the tournament so far.
And here, the Iberians have made a better impression. They are therefore slight favorites in the Spain U21 England U21 prediction. My analysis comes to a similar conclusion.
So I’m going with odds of 1.60 at Winamax for the bet “Spain will advance.”
The “Young Lions” are the defending champions of the U21 European Championship. However, the British have only won one of their three preliminary round matches. This puts the Spain U21 England U21 betting odds in favor of the Iberians.
For a “Rojita” victory in regular time, the odds at the best bookies, including tax-free betting providers, climb to a high of 2.20.
If the British prevail after 90 minutes, the Spain U21 England U21 odds will be between 3.10 and 3.35.
After the group stage of the 2025 U21 European Championship, the Spanish team is now the bookmakers’ sole favorite to win the title. Coach Santi Denia’s team had to work hard to win Group A.
In their first game against hosts Slovakia, the Iberians were already leading 2-0 after 18 minutes. But it was not until the 90th minute that “La Rojita” secured a narrow 3-2 victory. In the second match, it took until the 84th minute for the tide to turn, when Romania was reduced to ten men after receiving a red card.
With a man advantage, Spain was able to turn a 0-1 deficit into a 2-1 victory. The group stage concluded with a top-of-the-table clash against Italy. A draw was enough for the young players from the Iberian Peninsula to win the group.
And the Spanish U21 team got that one point with a 1-1 draw. With a total of 9-9 shots, the draw was deserved in the end. This means that the “Rojita” has not lost a group match in a U21 European Championship final tournament since 2019.
With five titles, Spain is the record winner in the current competition, alongside Italy. The Spanish youth team has reached the final in five of the last seven U21 European Championships.
They also won three times (2011, 2013, and 2019). Nine appearances in the final is the best record. In addition, “La Rojita” has always reached at least the semi-finals in the last four finals.
In 1984, England’s U21 team faced Spain in the European Championship final and won the title for the first time. The British repeated this feat two years ago in the final against the Iberians.
Whether they can add another European Championship victory against “La Rojita” remains to be seen. The “Young Lions” got off to a flying start in the current tournament with a 3-1 win over the Czech Republic.
The experience and quality of the Premier League players really paid off here. In their second group game, however, 64 percent possession and 20 shots on goal to Slovenia’s six were only enough for a 0-0 draw.
This meant that even in their final group game against Germany, qualification was still in the balance. However, Slovenia would have had to beat the Czech Republic and make up a five-goal difference.
Despite DFB coach Antonio Di Salvo rotating his team in no fewer than eleven positions, England suffered a 1-2 defeat against their archrivals. It was the first defeat for the FA’s youth team in an U21 European Championship after eight games.
England had major problems in the first half in particular, with slow passing and little movement off the ball. Things improved in the second half when coach Carsley brought on three fresh players in Stansfield, Norton-Cruffy, and McAtee.
In the end, statistics such as possession (66%), total shots (18:5) and shots on goal (5:2) clearly favored the “Young Lions.” However, this result was still enough for second place in Group B and a spot in the quarterfinals.
The English U21 national team has won eight of its last ten games at the U21 European Championship. Two years ago, England won the title with six wins from six games and a goal difference of 11:0.
The U21 teams from Spain and England have met ten times so far. In the test matches, the Iberians have narrowly come out on top with two wins and one defeat, with two draws.
The last friendly international was a goalless draw in November 2024 in La Linea de la Concepcion.
In competitive matches, however, the Young Lions have a great record against the Rojita. After five encounters at European Championships, the English are still unbeaten and have four clean sheets to their name.
This pairing has been in the final of the U21 European Championship twice, with the British coming out on top on both occasions. There was also a 1-1 draw in the group stage of the 2011 European Championship.
Spain and matches in the final stages of the U21 European Championship always mean goals. That’s because there hasn’t been a goalless draw in a U21 European Championship in 36 games involving the Rojita.
For the Spain U21 England U21 tip “Both teams to score,” VBET is offering odds of 1.85 this time.
Conclusion: With better finishing, England could certainly have turned the preliminary round games against Slovenia and Germany around. However, the “Young Lions” lack a striker.
In addition, the defense has already conceded three more goals in the preliminary round of the current tournament than in the entire 2023 European Championship. Spain has not been entirely convincing so far either.
But the “Rojita” have always brought their class and skill to the pitch when it was needed. This secured the Iberians victory in Group A without defeat. This better run in the tournament should also make the difference in the quarter-finals.
We can look forward to a close game between two evenly matched teams. In the end, however, coach Santi Denia’s men should come out on top. My Spain U21 England U21 prediction is therefore: Spain goes through!
