Defensive leader Eric Smith is committed to FC St. Pauli. The 27-year-old Swede extended his contract with the Kiez kickers “long-term”, as the promoted team announced on Monday. Smith initially joined St. Pauli on loan from KAA Gent in January 2021, impressed the club’s management despite a long-term calf injury, and was signed permanently the following summer. So far, the defender has played 90 competitive games (six goals) for the Hamburgers, and he has been a permanent fixture in the Bundesliga starting lineup this season. He scored his first top-flight goal in the 2-1 loss at Dortmund on Friday.
