Strikers in focus: the most searched for players & positions in the Bundesliga teams

It’s in the nature of the game that we fans focus on the strikers, after all, football is about scoring goals and that’s what the guys up front are for.

It is therefore not surprising that in our analysis of the most searched for positions by club, strikers are often at the top – but not for every club.

In addition, we at Wettfreunde have also found out for you which player was searched for most often by position, and there are a few surprises here.

Bundesliga: Most searched for player by position

We start with the most searched for players in the Bundesliga, sorted by position. We examined the period from July 2024 to January 2025, i.e. half of the season including the transfer period.

The most searched for player is a bit of a surprise, as it is neither Florian Wirtz nor Jamal Musiala. Instead, it is Thomas Müller, who is number one with 450,000 Google searches, and of course among all players in the “false nine” position.

When it comes to the position of attacking midfielder, Wirtz is in the lead, with only slightly fewer searches: 368,000 in total.

Unsurprisingly, Manuel Neuer and Harry Kane are the most searched for goalkeepers and strikers. By contrast, full-backs and wingers are much more surprising.

Jordy Makengo was the most searched for left back, Josip Juranovic the most searched for right back. Okay, Michael Olise was to be expected for right winger, but less so Leo Scienza on the other side!

Stiller, Groß, Anton, Frimpong and Skov in their respective positions are more likely again.

Most searched for positions of all Bundesliga clubs

Now let’s take a look at the positions that have caused the most stir at the individual Bundesliga clubs.

Of course, there were the most searches for Bayern, Dortmund, Leverkusen and Frankfurt. For all four, as well as for Freiburg, the search term striker was the most popular.

The reason for this can often only be speculated upon, in the above cases most likely because these strikers are all performing and are also candidates for sale at SGE. Marmoush and Ekitike have caused quite a stir, complicated names may have pushed the results as well.

At SCF, however, it was probably more a case of searching for the strikers, because it’s not so easy to recognize them just by their goals. In contrast to this, searches for strikers were most common at Gladbach and Leipzig.

Hoffenheim and Augsburg are the only teams where goalkeepers were most frequently searched for. At Stuttgart and Bremen, among others, midfielders were at the top of the search list.
