Marcel Koller and his club Al-Ahly had a bitter day in the African Champions League on Friday: an own goal in the 90th minute saw the Egyptian top club eliminated in the semi-finals (1-1 in the second leg after a 0-0 draw). The frustration was boundless – the club is also below expectations in the league, where it lies second (four points behind). The Swiss coach was even pelted with bottles by his own fans after the match. On Saturday, he was dismissed after three years in charge, during which the 64-year-old won the Champions League twice, among other honors. In the summer, Al-Ahly will be one of four African teams competing in the Club World Cup.
