Miron Muslic: Wife Ensada, children, and his origins

Having arrived in professional soccer as a coach a few years ago, the FC Schalke 04 coach has not always had it easy. Although he now has Austrian citizenship, it all began in Yugoslavia.

Miron Muslic was born on September 14, 1982, in the city of Bihac, located in what is now northwestern Bosnia, but just ten years later, the outbreak of war in his homeland turned everything upside down and forced his family to flee to Austria overnight.

The Muslic family built a new life there, but had to move frequently. This was because Miron’s parents worked as seasonal workers in hotels in Tyrol. They are now retired and commute between Bosnia and Tyrol.

They continue to be a great source of support in the life of the current Schalke coach. The other pillar of support is his wife Ensada.

Miron Muslic profile: age, origin, family

Miron’s wife also comes from what is now Bosnia. The couple have been married for 21 years, but the football coach’s job means they have little time together.

Muslic’s wife Ensada lives with their children in the Austrian village of Gmunden An Der Traun in Upper Austria. The coach’s daily routine means that he is often away from home, a situation that he wants to spare his children.

Ensada studied general health and nursing at the Deaconess Hospital in Linz, graduating in 2010.

What she does today or whether she works is not known. Her Instagram profile is private, although she occasionally appears with their children on her famous husband’s public profile.

In interviews, the coach repeatedly emphasizes how important his family is to him and visits his own family or relatives whenever his work schedule allows.

Like him, his sister is also married and has three children. He met them again shortly after the season opener at Schalke when the team left for training camp in Austria.

He later told the Krone newspaper: “It was very emotional to come here. A bit like coming home.”

Miron Muslic’s career as a player and coach

A look at Miron Muslic’s playing career reveals that he will not exactly go down in history as a globetrotter.

Apart from a year in Croatia, he spent his entire playing career in Austria. He started out in the youth teams of Wacker Innsbruck and FC Tirol.

The most notable of his clubs was ultimately SV Ried, where Muslic played four games in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Coaching career

He also took his first significant steps as a coach at SV Ried, where he was assistant coach, coach of the second team and youth coach before FAC came knocking in 2020.

After 16 games in Floridsdorf, he returned to his home club SV Ried, where he took over as head coach for the first time. However, after ten games and without a single win, this experiment failed miserably.

Miron Muslic then continued his career abroad when he joined Cercle Brugge in October 2021. First as assistant coach under Dominik Thalhammer and Yves Vanderhaeghe, then as head coach from September 2022.

He was dismissed in Belgium in December 2024, but all in all, with 101 games and 1.51 points per game, this was his best spell as a coach to date.

Via Plymouth Argyle, with whom he was relegated from the Championship in 2025, Muslic’s path finally led him to Gelsenkirchen, where FC Schalke presented him with the most difficult task of his career to date.

How much does Miron Muslic earn at FC Schalke 04?

One question is of particular interest to many Schalke fans: How much does Miron Muslic earn as coach at S04?

Exact figures for Miron Muslic’s Schalke salary are not yet known.

However, previous coaches at Schalke give an indication of the range in which Muslic’s annual salary is likely to fall. Karel Geraerts and Kees van Wonderen both earned around €500,000 per year.

Miron Muslic is therefore likely to settle in a similar range – perhaps slightly below that due to his lack of experience.

In order to buy their new coach out of his contract with Plymouth Argyle, Schalke renegotiated the transfer fee, which had actually been set at €1.2 million.

In the end, the two clubs agreed on a transfer fee of €700,000 plus bonuses.

Miron Muslic in private: What is the Austrian’s stance on religion?

Due to his roots in the Bosnian part of Yugoslavia, Miron Muslic’s religion is also regulated by his family.

Like his parents, the Schalke coach belongs to the Bosnian Muslim population group. The majority of this group is Muslim and historically native to Bosnia-Herzegovina and other parts of the Balkans.

This group is predominantly Sunni and has a long Islamic tradition shaped by Ottoman rule.

It is one of the three major ethnic-religious communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, alongside Croatian Catholics and Serbian Orthodox Christians.

How Muslic practices his religion in everyday life has received little attention so far. It is clear that it plays an important role for him, as his posts on his Instagram account show.

As a devout Muslim, Miron Muslic is also likely to fast during Ramadan.
