The Conference League qualifiers have reached the playoff round. The remaining teams are now just one step away from participating in the group stage. Among them is FSV Mainz 05, which was even on course for the Champions League for quite some time last Bundesliga season.
In my Trondheim Mainz prediction, I will explore the FSV’s chances of securing a decent starting position for the second leg in Norway. One thing is certain: with my main prediction of “both teams to score” at odds of 1.60 at Interwetten, I think a goalless draw is out of the question.
My Trondheim Mainz tip: Both teams to score
Here are the reasons for my tip:
- Mainz has had a strong preseason (4W, 1D) and looks ready for the European clash on paper.
- Trondheim has only failed to score once in its last eight games.
- FSV has scored a total of 17 goals in five friendly matches.
FSV Mainz 05 has been impressive in the Bundesliga in 2024/2025 and has also had a strong preseason. I therefore expect the 05ers to put in another convincing performance in Trondheim and cause Rosenborg some problems.
Based on Mainz’s away win, I think this is a good alternative tip. The odds are climbing to around 2.10, which I think offers sufficient value.
Trondheim – Mainz prediction & bets
If you’re betting on “both teams to score,” you’ll probably want to check out the “over 2.5 goals” market. This bet is also a good option for my Trondheim Mainz prediction. The odds are around 1.80, which is definitely worth a shot as a single bet.
However, if you are pursuing a completely different strategy and believe Rosenborg Trondheim will put in a strong performance, the “Double Chance 1X” is the best option. After all, the bet is comparatively lucrative at around 1.70.
The “draw at half-time” is also interesting. I can imagine that both teams will feel each other out in the first half and go into the break on level terms. The odds are around 2.10.

ChatGPT sees the medium risk in the tip “1st goal Rosenborg.” And here, too, I can’t really disagree. It’s obvious that Trondheim will do everything they can to take the lead in front of their home crowd. I think the odds of around 2.30 are excellent.
For medium risk, the AI has put together the combination “Double Chance X2 & Over 1.5 Goals.” In my opinion, this is also a great tip. A 1-1 or 2-1 win for FSV? Very realistic! The odds are around 1.65.
The best odds for Trondheim vs. Mainz
The classic 1×2 bets have already been touched upon. Mainz are slight favorites going into the game with odds of around 2.00. This inevitably draws attention to the away table from last season’s Bundesliga. Here, FSV were the sixth-best team – ahead of BVB and Eintracht Frankfurt.

One thing is clear: Rosenborg Trondheim has two sides to it. Defensive performances such as in the third round of the Conference League qualifiers against Hammarby (0-0, 1-0) contrast with more turbulent performances against KFUM Oslo (1-4) and Tromsö (4-1).
Ultimately, I believe that FSV Mainz has enough quality to conjure up a fairly open game.
If Rosenborg wants to advance against Mainz, it won’t be enough to barricade themselves in front of their own penalty area in front of their home crowd. So I also expect the Norwegians to show some attacking intent.
My predicted final score is a simple 1-1. The odds for this are around 6.90, which is rather below average. This shows that even the best bookmakers consider this to be the most likely outcome.
Trondheim form check
It cannot be said that Rosenborg Trondheim is struggling with form problems ahead of their clash with FSV Mainz. They have only suffered one defeat since the beginning of July, although it must be noted that the Norwegians do not usually come up against teams of Mainz’s caliber.
Interestingly, Rosenborg has not conceded a goal in three of its last four games. However, I don’t believe the Norwegians will keep a clean sheet against the Bundesliga side. The FSV is simply too strong for that.
Rosenborg’s minimalist approach at home (14:4 goals in 9 games) is therefore unlikely to be sustainable against the FSV.
Mainz form check
As a Mainz fan, you really can’t complain at the moment. The FSV finished sixth in the Bundesliga, ahead of RB Leipzig and runners-up Stuttgart.
The test match results have also given a first taste of what to expect from the 05ers this season. No defeats in five games and 17 goals scored – that’s impressive.
However, Mainz do have one disadvantage compared to Trondheim. While FSV had to play Dresden in the cup on Monday, Trondheim had enough time to prepare for their important home game thanks to a break in the league.
