Usyk won on points, taking all four world titles and thus becoming “Undisputed Champion”. There had not been an undisputed heavyweight world champion for 25 years.
Of course, Tyson Fury does not want to let this defeat, the first of his professional career, sit on him and that is why the Usyk vs. Fury rematch is coming – later this year!
The date for Usyk vs. Fury 2 is December 21, 2021, and the venue for the rematch is Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudis don’t let themselves down for big boxing matches anyway. They paid a whopping 80 million dollars for the Usyk vs. Joshua re-match, which took place in Jeddah. They will fork out around 100 million dollars for the two Usyk – Fury fights.

What is the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury about?
For the first time since the four major boxing associations WBA, WBO, IBF and WBC came into existence, all their heavyweight belts were unified in one fight in the first Fury – Usyk world championship fight in May this year. Oleksandr Usyk held the three WBA, WBO and IBF titles, while Tyson Fury had been the WBC world champion since 2020.
Usyk won and was awarded all four belts. This also made him “Undisputed Champion”.
The last time there was an “undisputed world champion” in the heavyweight division was in 1999 with Lennox Lewis. At that time, however, the Briton had “only” three titles (WBA, WBC and IBF). Usyk’s quadruple triumph must therefore be rated even higher.
But: The Usyk vs. Fury rematch on December 21 is no longer about these four world championship crowns, but only about three.
Usyk has renounced a mandatory defense of his IBF title and put it back. Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois recently fought for the latter, with “DD” taking it.
This means that only the three WBC, WBA and WBO belts are still at stake in Usyk vs. Fury 2, all of which are held by the Ukrainian. Only if Fury succeeds in taking revenge will these three WMN titles go to the “Gypsy King”. In the event of a draw, the trophies will remain with Usyk.
Prediction for Usyk vs. Fury 2: Who is the favorite in the rematch?
In the first fight in May of this year, Oleksandr Usyk won by decision of the judges against Tyson Fury after 12 rounds. In the ninth round, the Ukrainian had even worked the “Gypsy King” so much that he was counted out.
The best betting providers in Germany see the reigning champion as the clear favorite in the Usyk vs.
Oleksandr Usyk impresses with outstanding mobility, which is why he is nicknamed “The Cat”, as well as excellent footwork and a high ring IQ. The Ukrainian not only impressed offensively in both fights against Joshua, but also with his enormous stamina and was also able to improve in rounds 10 to 12.
In the first fight against Fury, Usyk was the better fighter for long stretches, which is why he almost sent the British giant to the floor.
Tyson Fury is also an offensive boxer who is also very agile. His biggest advantage over Usyk are his physical advantages.
Head-to-head, balance & comparison
With a height of 2.06 meters, the “Gypsy King” is a full 15 centimeters taller than the Ukrainian, who is “only” 1.91 meters tall. This means that Fury also has 18 centimeters more reach (216 to 198 centimeters).
However, Anthony Joshua also had certain advantages in terms of height and reach against Usyk – the end is well known. The nimble Ukrainian came out on top twice in the end.
That no longer matters to Fury – he is fully focused on revenge!
“I didn’t believe that he beat me last time and I won’t let him beat me this time either,” Fury rumbles. “I need to knock Usyk out and I’m going to train for a good KO. I’ll get him like I did before (in the second fight against Deontay Wilder in 2020, editor’s note). And that’s exactly what I’m going to do!”
