Bundesliga 18th matchday, Sunday, 19/01/2025 at 5:30 pm
Bremen definitely has to blame itself for not closing the bag. Because a few days ago, the Hanseatic city took the lead three times – and three times, the opponent from Heidenheim managed to equalize the score again.
So it will be difficult to make the secret dream of every SVW fan come true: a return to the international stage.
Meanwhile, I have decided on a Werder Bremen Augsburg betting tip for the start of the Bundesliga second half of the season, which will hopefully be just as successful as my prediction for the last appearance of the Green and Whites.
Marco Grüll is definitely one of those summer signings for Werder, who didn’t impress much at the beginning, but is now finally delivering the desired performance!
The Austrian recently scored a brace in two Bundesliga home games in a row – the first Bremen player to do so since Nils Petersen in 2013.
He has scored four of his five goals this season in his last three games, and his four home goals are SVW’s sole top-scorer this season.
So, depending on my Werder Bremen Augsburg prediction, the currently in-form Austrian could be the key to taking the full three points this time.
The recently published Werder Bremen Augsburg odds tell their own story.
The recently published Werder Bremen Augsburg odds tell their own story. At 1.85, the host is favored – an assessment that shows how much German betting providers value the team’s home advantage and consistency.
Augsburg, on the other hand, are clear outsiders with odds of around 4.10, which means that a win for the visitors is considered less likely and could therefore be classified as an “upset”.
KI prediction Werder Bremen vs Augsburg: That’s what ChatGPT tips
I could have actually saved the Werder Bremen Augsburg AI prediction, since none of the three suggestions with different risk ratings from Chat GPT really convinced me.
Nevertheless, I don’t want to withhold these computer-generated tips from you.
The high-risk tip “1. Tor Augsburg/Sieg Bremen” (Augsburg score first/Bremen win) is the least convincing, as the Hanseatic team has always been able to score the first goal in their last five home games.
So SVW’s problem is more about successfully defending a lead until the final whistle…
The middle risk tip “Over 2.5 goals in the game” at average odds of around 1.80 at almost all sports betting providers is also eyed by me with suspicion, since this mark has not been cracked in any of the last three direct duels.
The last suggestion that ChatGPT tries to suggest to me as a supposedly safe tip, “both score”, actually seems to make sense at first, at least at first glance.
But the odds of just 1.73 on average make this tip less attractive, since SV can be trusted to win by a narrow 1-0 or 2-0 at any time.
Analysis: Werder Bremen vs Augsburg
This is unbelievable! Bremen took the lead three times last Wednesday, and three times Heidenheim equalized!
The big problem for Bremen is their sudden defensive weakness. The SV conceded seven goals in the two Bundesliga games in January 2025 – more than only BVB (also 7) – and thus more than in the last six games of 2024 (5) combined.
But on the other hand, you have to give Werder everything at home. After all, the men from the Weser have not been beaten in five Bundesliga home games (2 wins, 3 draws) – the last time the sports club managed this in this form was in the 2018-19 season under Florian Kohfeldt.
On the other hand, although FCA got the better of Union Berlin a few days ago, I wasn’t really convinced by this 2-0 triumph.
The Fuggerstadt team have not celebrated any of their five Bundesliga victories this season against a club that is currently in the top half of the table. That will certainly play into Werder’s hands!
Odds analysis
The Werder Bremen Augsburg betting tip, “SVW win without conceding a goal”, at odds of 3.25, is definitely an interesting offer. After all, each of the last three victories of the Hanseatic team over Augsburg was achieved without conceding a goal.
Even if the northerners have conceded far too many goals recently – four against Leipzig, three against Heidenheim – the defense could be surprisingly stable against the Fuggerstadt team, which is weak away from home.
I also consider the “goal bet on Marco Grüll” to be promising, with an almost identical odds.
The Austrian is currently in fantastic form, which makes him a dangerous weapon in offense. If Grüll continues to perform as he has recently, a goal and a nomination for the 2026 World Cup is quite realistic!
Augsburg finally managed to take three points on the road again with a 2-0 win at Union Berlin after eleven away games without a win. This was the first time they had managed this since March 2024!
Now the Fuggerstadters could even remain without conceding a goal for the first time in two consecutive away games since December 2021. But how stable will the defense really be next Sunday when they visit the Weser?
A team that has disappointed so much away from home for much of the 2024/25 season as FCA has, certainly doesn’t overnight become a candidate for an away win at home-strong club like Werder Bremen.
Augsburg is SVW’s “current” favorite opponent
Of course it was bitter for the SVW fans that their team didn’t know how to close the deal against Heidenheim a few days ago. However, I still see Bremen in the pole position to take the valuable three points on Sunday.
Since the start of the 2023/24 season, Werder have only picked up more points against FSV Mainz 05 (9) than against FC Augsburg (7). Nevertheless, this is only a snapshot that statistically flatters the hosts a little too much!
After all, the FCA did not pick up more points against any other club in the top flight than against Werder Bremen (39).
Furthermore, with 26 points, Werder Bremen are enjoying their best Bundesliga first half in 13 years. The inconsistent performance against Augsburg should not be allowed to obscure that fact.
In its last five Bundesliga seasons, SVW also always started the second half of the season with a win – never before had Werder managed such a long winning streak on the first matchday of the second half of the season.
What’s more, no other Bundesliga club currently has a longer winning streak on the first matchday of the second half of the season!
However, both teams go into this matchday weakened. Both Werder Bremen (Senne Lynen) and Augsburg (Frank Onyeka) have to do without an important player on matchday 18.
Interestingly, SVW lost the only game in this Bundesliga season without Lynen, while Augsburg, on the other hand, did not win either Bundesliga game this season without Onyeka, with the team even conceding an average of 3.0 goals in the process.
My Werder Bremen Augsburg Tip:
Augsburg picked up two more points than Bremen on the last matchday, but this time it should go the other way. SVW are strong at home and are in the top half of the table – the FCA have not done well against these teams so far.
I also expect the loss of Frank Onyeka to be more painful for Augsburg than the Fuggerstadt team would like. Bremen, on the other hand, will do everything they can to keep the three points in their home arena after their disappointing performance against Heidenheim.
My Werder Bremen Augsburg prediction: SVW win & under 4.5 goals.
