The Rome Masters 2024 favorites & participants
Who will win the Masters tournament in Rome?
In the Rome Masters 2024 predictions, there are many contenders to win the tournament in the Foro Italico, because there is no clay court dominator this season.
And: With Novak Djokovic, the number 1 in the ATP world rankings will also be back!
After surprisingly canceling the Madrid Masters, Novak Djokovic returns to the big tennis stage in Rome. But can he also be counted among the Rome Masters 2024 favorites?
The former Serbian champion has only played three tournaments so far this season. The Australian Open in January, Indian Wells in March and the Masters tournament in Monte Carlo in April. Following his triumph in Melbourne, the 36-year-old Serb recently suffered two early defeats.
However, Djokovic has already won the Italian Masters in Rome six times, most recently in 2022, and reached the semi-finals last year.
Nevertheless, there are likely to be a few other players who are seen as favourites for the Rome Masters 2024 in the run-up to the event
Such as the Spanish clay court specialist Carlos Alcaraz. The world number three is always up for a tournament win on the red clay.
Jannik Sinner, the world number two, is also a possible Rome winner. Especially as he could possibly also take first place in the world rankings after the Masters in Rome – depending on how Djokovic performs in the Foro Italico.
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ name could also appear on the Rome Masters 2024 schedule for a little longer. The Greek won the Masters1000 tournament in Monte Carlo this spring and reached the final of the ATP500 tournament in Barcelona the following week. At the Masters in Madrid, however, he had to retire early again
But the Scandinavian duo Holger Rune (DEN) and Caspar Ruud (NOR) are also among the candidates to win the tournament. Rune reached the final last year, Ruud has played a strong clay court season so far (victory in Barcelona).
And then there is still the clay court king Rafael Nadal. He made his comeback in Barcelona, but had to retire in round 2. Things went better for the Spaniard in Madrid. Nadal has won a total of ten times in Rome so far. Will title number 11 follow this year?
Daniil Medvedev, for example, who won the “Italo Masters” last year, or Germany’s number 1 Alexander Zverev, who also gets on quite well on the Roman clay court, could also help him
