Slovakia and Francesco Calzona are going their separate ways. The association had offered the national coach a two-year extension, but Calzona had gambled on a longer-term contract. Due to this discrepancy, the cooperation has now been terminated, as the association announced. The Italian had been working for Slovakia since August 2022, took part in Euro 2024 in Germany with the country, but did not get past the preliminary round there. The World Cup qualification did not succeed, the team failed in the play-offs against Kosovo.
