Women’s Olympic soccer tournament, quarter-finals, Saturday, 03.08.2024 at 15:00
An Olympic medal for the USA women’s soccer team? That wouldn’t come as a surprise at the Paris Games! The US girls are aiming for the semi-finals, and their record so far is flawless.
Although they are up against a strong team, they are also up against one of their favorite opponents. How do you rate the game and why will I be betting on “over 2.5 goals”? I’ll tell you in my USA Japan women’s betting tip:
Four gold, one silver, one bronze – whenever the Olympic Games are called, you can always rely on the US team! The last title dates back to 2012, so it’s time for gold once again.
If you’ve watched the squad closely over the last few days, you have to ask yourself: who is actually going to beat this team? Three games, three wins, the players always had everything under control
After the 3:0 win against Zambia, which could have been much higher, Germany were dispatched 4:1. With the pressure off, they could afford to settle for a narrow 2-1 win against Australia.
The Americans led at half-time in all three games, meaning they wanted to take control of the game early on. In this respect, this is precisely the bet that things will look good again for the US girls after the first 45 minutes
At Betano you get odds of 2.15, which is even more valuable thanks to the exclusive Betano promo code. Of course, a good result after one half is not enough to get closer to the medal places.
In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, it was the only Olympics in which the USA failed to take home a medal, and it was already eliminated in the quarter-finals, the current round.
In view of this year’s results, it’s hard to imagine that it will be the same on Saturday, as they have only lost once in 2024. And that one defeat was probably only because progression in the Gold Cup was already certain anyway
Japan is generally one of the USA’s favorite opponents, having lost only one of their 28 head-to-head meetings. However, there was one very painful defeat that was only decided after a penalty shoot-out.
In 2011, on German soil, the US girls lost the World Cup final on penalties. 2004, 2008 (twice) and 2012? The duel between the USA and Japan has actually taken place four times at the Olympics
The winner, which was always America, won three times by a one-goal margin. All in all, it is therefore not at all surprising that the USA are favored, with average odds of 1.62 to 4.80.
However, the Japanese national team is of course also aware of its own qualities. They won the Olympic silver medal in 2012, but have yet to collect any further precious metal
The 2011 world champions got off to a false start in the current Olympic tournament, losing 2:1 to the world number one from Spain. At least they countered well, with a 2:1 win against Brazil.
A deserved victory? Let’s put it this way, it couldn’t have been luckier! In the second minute of stoppage time, they equalized with a penalty, and four minutes later they actually scored the winning goal
After this show of strength, everything was back on track, and with renewed confidence, Japan beat Nigeria 3-1 in the final third group game to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Spain and the USA in a test match, both times losing 2-1 – the only two times they have lost this year. The individual quality is high, but what they lack in comparison to the Americans is experience of winning titles
The USA are aiming for the next Olympic gold! After three commanding performances in the group stage, including a 4:1 win over Germany, they are favorites going into their clash with Japan.
A favorite opponent, especially at the Olympics. The Japanese have rather showered themselves further, benefiting from two very late goals. In addition, they have yet to concede a goal at this tournament.
Since all of the games between the two teams have been anything but boring, I’m assuming that we’ll see a heated exchange of blows in the semi-finals and am therefore opting for the following tip:
The 2.5 goals will be surpassed!
