Women’s Olympic soccer tournament, quarter-finals, Saturday, 03.08.2024 at 19:00
After the drone scandal, I didn’t think I’d make a Canada Germany bet at this Olympics. Because that would have implied that the North Americans would advance, which initially seemed impossible.
But now the defending champions have actually reached the quarter-finals and are highly motivated to pave their way to the final.
I’m personally considering the “Canucks” for a win bet also because, unlike the DFB ladies, they haven’t shown a moment of weakness yet
Horst Hrubesch reminded me a little of Argentinian coaching legend Marcelo Bielsa, whose habit of sitting on a medical kit while watching the game is also a common occurrence.
What the national coach saw in his team’s recent 4-1 victory was certainly the right response to the equally heavy 4-1 defeat against the USA on matchday 2.
However, some experts would want to exclude the DFB women from the circle of possible gold medal winners from now on simply because of this clear defeat against the USWNT.
The fact is that the German women’s upcoming opponents are much more on a par with the Americans than the Zambians, who they have just defeated.
What also characterizes the 2020 Olympic champions is a “now first, right now” mentality that has helped them overcome a mammoth task that no one would have initially thought possible.
Due to the much-cited drone scandal, the Canadians were handed a hefty six-point deduction, which seems to have spurred them on
Canada scored five goals in the games against New Zealand (2:1), France (2:1) and Colombia (1:0) and officially earned “three points” on their way to the quarter-finals.
The 2:1 victory over the hosts was particularly outstanding, which I have already prepared you for in my France Canada tip.
This drone scandal has brought a capable team, which already won the Olympics four years ago, even closer together.
Almost all the Canadians also play in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), which is more demanding in terms of quality than the women’s Bundesliga, which is still being developed in this country.
Germany, meanwhile, have to worry about Lea Schüller, who has scored three goals so far and complained of pain after the game against Zambia.
Personally, however, I expect the FC Bayern Munich striker to be involved on Saturday in my Canada Germany betting tip.
The fans of the DFB team, on the other hand, should be more worried about their upcoming opponents, who, with their enormous physicality, should be able to stand up to the German women for 90 minutes.
Canada play with more energy, are more stable and, in my opinion, have already made France, the strongest team at this tournament, look very old indeed
The Canada Germany odds from the bookmakers, which you can call up on your own display at any time using suitable mobile software such as the Bet365 app, take the decision off my hands to a certain extent.
The odds for a victory for the North Americans in regulation time promise a whopping tripling of the stake.
Consequently, I’m also much more interested in a double chance 1x bet than a win bet on the DFB team.
Although the Germany odds are somewhat more generous at around 2.20, I rate the prospect of extra time or a win for the defending champions as significantly higher
Canada were already on the winning track before the start of the women’s Olympic tournament and have now won five international matches in a row – and always by exactly one goal difference.
More precisely, with the scores 1:0 or 2:1. Is it a coincidence that Canada’s last two victories over the DFB women have come with exactly one of these two scores?
There were two international matches between the two nations at the 2016 Olympics: Canada won 2:1 in the preliminary round, but were beaten 2:0 by the Germans in the semi-finals a week later.
The last time they met, however, was in February 2022 at the Arnold Clark Cup, where the North Americans came out on top 1-0.
Conclusion: This match is likely to produce fewer than 3.5 goals, as the Canadians’ defense is made of very different stuff than that of other nations that have already been eliminated.
The corresponding odds of around 1.55, which are traded on the markets of bookmakers such as Merkur Bets, could therefore already be sufficient for a single bet.
In my Canada Germany betting tip, however, I am deliberately taking a little more risk and combining this scenario with the prospect of a victory for the North Americans or extra time.
My final prediction is: Double chance 1X & Under 3.5 goals
