Copa America, semi-final, Wednesday, 10.07.2024 at 02:00
This Wednesday will see the only two matches in this edition of the Copa America: Argentina vs Canada.
However, the fact that the opening game will also be the first semi-final comes as something of a surprise to many experts.
Meanwhile, I will try to give you a similarly successful Argentina-Canada tip as I did a few weeks ago.
Can the “Albiceleste” really crown themselves as one of the best national teams of all time and successfully defend their Copa title as reigning world champions?
In my Argentina Canada prediction, we will of course also take a look back at the opening game and examine what conclusions can be drawn for this much more important semi-final.
We will also take a look at the bookmakers’ Argentina Canada odds. In doing so, I also take into account some betting providers without tax that also meet the highest quality standards.
I’ll also give you the Betano promo code to take advantage of a good opportunity with the official bookmaker of the European Championship 2024 to put its extensive Copa America offer to the test
The bookmakers’ forecast?
The bookmakers’ Argentina Canada odds are around 1.35 for a win for the defending champions, 4.80 on average for a draw and 9.50 for a win for the underdogs.
These odds make it clear that the bookmakers see Argentina as the clear favorites.
It is also remarkable that the bookmakers have given the Albiceleste almost exactly the same odds of winning the match as they did in the opening game on June 21 (2:0).
And even though I was right with my Argentina Canada tip (ARG win to nil) back then, it was anything but a one-sided affair. The Maple Leafs sold themselves for more than expected
Analysis: Argentina vs. Canada
Because during the current continental championship overseas, I have been able to provide you with several good predictions.
Argentina, for example, failed to dominate Ecuador (1:1) as the bookmakers expected.
In fact, the Albiceleste only just managed to defeat the courageous Ecuadorians in a penalty shoot-out – even though they were previously considered the clear favorites.
This is also the most important insight I would like to share with you: there is a certain contradiction between the Argentines’ often clear role as favorites in the markets and their mostly narrow victories
Canada, like the hosts, are using the Copa America to prepare their squad for the 2026 World Cup on home soil, the biggest World Cup finals of all time.
Unlike the already eliminated USA, however, the Canadians achieved something unexpected!
After losing 2-0 to Argentina in their opening game, they beat Peru 1-0, drew 0-0 with Chile and then defeated the surprise team of the tournament.
Again, a penalty shoot-out was needed to knock Venezuela out of the competition, but judging by the way the game went, their place in the semi-finals was well deserved.
Odds analysis
You should discard an Argentina Canada bet that assumes a win for the defending champions from the outset. It will be a tight affair and the Argentina odds of just 1.35 are simply not in the right proportion to the risk.
On the other hand, a clean sheet at the break is much more interesting, as the odds of 2.80 on offer lead to a significantly higher payout. After all, the score was still 0-0 at the end of the first half in the opening match.
However, the Argentinians would want to increase the tempo considerably in the second half, if only because of the tournament format.
Consequently, I also come to my final Argentina Canada tip from the headline, which speculates on an exact replica of the course of the opening game (half-time/final score X/1).
Canada: It will be difficult to keep the score at 0-0 for 90 minutes!
Watch out: Three of Argentina’s last four Copa América matches have been won after a winless first half.
And that’s exactly what I’m trying to do with my Argentina Canada betting tip.
As in the opening game, the Maple Leafs could at least keep things tight until the half-time break, before the pressure increases incessantly afterwards.
It’s not for nothing that the bookmakers are prepared to offer you odds of around 2.25 for a draw at the break, but this swells to almost 5.00 if even 90 minutes are not enough to determine the winner.
In short: The sports betting providers know that the probability of a significant increase in tempo by the “Albiceleste” in the second half, which would bring about the decision, is high!
Canada without any pressure!
The competition rules ensure there is no extra time in this tournament, so getting the job done in regulation time will be a priority for Lionel Scaloni.
Anything other than a win for Argentina would send shockwaves through the continent, especially as they have prevailed in their two previous encounters against this opponent by a combined 7 goals to 0.
Let’s not forget that they have also won ten consecutive Copa America matches and kept a clean sheet in seven of them.
Interestingly, the Maple Leafs’ performances have become increasingly convincing since the opening game, while the Albiceleste’s victories have lost some of their luster since then.
Tiredness after a long season in the top European leagues could be making itself felt for the defending champions. Canada, on the other hand, will benefit psychologically from the fact that nobody expects much from them on Wednesday.
I think Argentina will be lucky if they somehow manage to make it 1-0 in the second half. In any case, I don’t see a dismantling of the last remaining CONCACAF participant on the cards here
Who could score the winning goal? One of my favorite players, on whom I was able to recommend successful goalscorer bets to you several times in the past Serie A season, after all, the good man also became “Capocannoniere” in the end.
I am of course referring to Lautaro Martínez, who is a player for the really important moments.
He has scored an average of one goal per game in his six international appearances since joining the national team from Milan – despite only playing the full 90 minutes once
My tip:
The American home crowd will probably want to support the Canadians. Argentina, meanwhile, must be prepared for another tough game against an opponent that has grown in confidence since the preliminary round.
The score may still be 0-0 at half-time before the world champions bring all their experience to bear in the second half. Lautaro Martínez could make the decisive difference.
However, the Canadians have already shown that they can put in strong performances, even if Derek Cornelius’ yellow card suspension will certainly cause them problems.
My Argentina Canada tip: ARG win after a previous half-time draw
