Cagliari – AS Roma betting tip, prediction & odds 18.08.2024

Serie A, Sunday, 18.08.2024 at 20:45

In my Cagliari AS Roma betting tip for matchday 1 of the new Serie A season, I’m sticking with the favorite.

Because although I don’t count the “Giallorossi” among the championship contenders on my list, they are a tick better prepared for the new season than the Sardinians

One of the best Italian coaches of all time, Claudio Ranieri, quietly retired in the summer.

Ranieri’s last official act was to lead the Sardinians into safe waters before handing over the reins to his successor Davide Nicola.

Cagliari now face the difficult task of keeping themselves out of the bottom three places in the “Serie A death zone” in a highly competitive second half of the table. The season opener certainly promises to be no walk in the park.

Daniele De Rossi was originally only intended as a stopgap solution, but thanks to strong performances in the second half of the season, he was able to assert himself as Roma coach over the summer.

In recent weeks, he has welcomed none other than Artem Dovbyk, the top scorer of the previous La Liga season, and Matías Soulé.

Both dream players were at the top of the former Italian international’s list and should have decisively strengthened the Giallorossi for another assault on a European Cup place.

However, the Giallorossi’s squad should not have enough firepower for an assault on the Scudetto, even if the opening game will not pose too much of a challenge.

Roma can look back on an impressive record against Cagliari, with just one defeat in the last 18 encounters (13 wins, 4 draws).

Last season, they even managed to score four goals against the Sardinians both home and away

Cagliari have drawn their first league game in each of the last four seasons. That’s why, at first glance, you could also toy with the idea of another points-split.

But in the end, the current Cagliari AS Roma odds, which you can check yourself at any time in the handy Sunmaker app, advise me against a corresponding Tip X bet.

If the draw odds were an average of 4.50 or more, I could certainly imagine such a betting scenario.

However, the value actually traded is only 3.30 on average and is therefore not in the correct proportion to the probability of a 0:0, 1:1 or a higher draw

Roma won both of last year’s duels against Cagliari – as already indicated – with 4:0 and 4:1 respectively, far too confidently to turn down the great offer from Bwin Sportwetten.

I’ll take 1.95 for an away win with a kiss on the hand. Especially as the capital city team have not lost any of their five pre-season games apart from the 0:1 against Toulouse.

In fact, the De Rossi team even managed a 5-2 win over Milan and a respectable 1-1 draw against Everton, which clearly signals to me that the offered away win odds should be accepted!

Cagliari sent out a positive signal for the new season a few days ago in the Coppa Italia.

In the first competitive match of the 2024/25 season, the Sardinians managed to celebrate a 3-1 victory over Carrarese in the first round.

That’s certainly not a bad result, but given the clear superiority the Romans should have against them on Saturday, I have an additional tip for you.

“Roma win with handicap -1” is of course a bit risky, but the same applies here at odds of around 3.60 as for the simple away win odds.

Namely: The potential payout is higher than the probability of the corresponding event occurring.

Conclusion: Cagliari have a new coach and a very difficult season ahead of them.

The Sardinians have already made the acquaintance of Serie B in recent years and could soon have to make the bitter return to the second tier.

Meanwhile, the away win odds have been set high enough in my eyes for you to try your luck with the Romans. Yes, I wouldn’t even want to rule out a bold handicap bet on the capital city …

But my Cagliari AS Roma betting tip plays it safe: Opening win for the “Giallorossi”
