The 2024 Champions League qualifiers have begun – and it will be tougher than ever to get into the top flight. Of the 36 teams, 29 have already been confirmed.
This means that only 7 teams have the chance to take part in the 2024/25 Champions League season over a total of four qualifying rounds!

How does Champions League qualifying work in 2024? The road to the top flight is long and arduous for many clubs from smaller leagues. There are three rounds in total and then a play-off. This is how the 2024 CL qualifiers start.
28 champions from the associations ranked 25th to 55th in the league table will take part in the first qualifying round. (But: excluding Liechtenstein as well as Ferencvaros Budapest and Qarabag Agdam, who receive a bye as the clubs with the best coefficients).
The winners advance to the Champions League 2nd qualifying round. Those who lose move on to the 2nd qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League 2024/25 (those in pairings “8” and “9” even go straight through to the 3rd qualifying round)

The 2nd round of the 2024 Champions League qualifiers
From the second qualifying round onwards, there are two separate draw pots: national champions are only drawn against other national champions – whereas “runners-up”, i.e. second, third or fourth-placed clubs, are only drawn against other “runners-up” in the placement path.
24 teams compete in the champions path of the 2nd qualifying round: The 14 winners of the 1st qualifying round and the ten champions of the associations ranked 15th to 24th in the UEFA five-year rankings (excluding Russia).
The winners advance to the Champions League 3rd qualifying round. The losing teams move on to the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 3rd qualifying round champions’ path.
Four teams according to the entry list (the runners-up of the leagues ranked 11-14 in the UEFA five-year ranking) will compete in the placement path of the 2nd qualifying round: The winners of the two matches advance to the 3rd qualifying round placement path.
The losers move into the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 3rd qualifying round cup winners’ and runners-up path.

The 3rd round of Champions League qualification 2024:
The 3rd round of the 2024 Champions League qualifiers will take place in August. A total of 20 teams will play in the 3rd round of the CL Qualifiers 2024. They will continue to be divided into two paths:
The first legs are scheduled for August 6 and 7, with the second legs all taking place on August 13. The winners of the first and second legs will reach the Champions League play-offs in their respective pathway
CL Qualifiers 2024 3rd round: Schedule & Dates
The twelve winners of the Champions Path of the 2nd qualifying round will compete in the Champions Path. The winners advance to the champions path of the play-off round.
The losing teams move on to the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League 2024/25.
Eight teams will compete in the placement round: These are the runners-up from the 7th to 10th place leagues, the third from 6th place and the fourth from 5th place in the UEFA five-year ranking and the two winners of the 2nd qualifying round (placement path).
The winners are placed in the CL play-offs. The losing teams move on to the league phase of the UEFA Europa League 2024/25.
Champions League qualification 2024: The play-offs
The fourth and final round of the 2024 Champions League qualifiers will be called the “play-offs” to improve marketing opportunities. From this round onwards, all matches will be marketed centrally by UEFA in order to generate greater media attention and thus increasing advertising revenue.
The 2024 Champions League play-offs will decide who will advance to the new group stage of the “premier league”. The draw will take place on August 5, 2024.

A total of 14 teams will play in the play-off round. They are further divided into two paths.
The winners of the seven play-off duels will qualify for the league phase of the new Champions League, while the losers will be fixed in the league phase of the new Europa League 2024/25.
The four champions of the associations in 11th to 14th place in the rankings and the six winners of the champions path of the third qualifying round will take part in the champions path of the play-offs.

Champions League qualification 2024 – TV & Livestream broadcast
Where will the matches in the 2024 Champions League qualifiers be broadcast live on TV? Soccer fans are asking themselves this question.
After all, the three rounds of the CL qualifiers and the play-offs offer some very interesting matches – with a lot at stake, namely a place in the European elite.
Qualifying for the Champions League is only marketed centrally from the play-off matches onwards. Before that, the matches can be shown on various channels and broadcast live. Depending on who buys the rights for the respective pairing.
In Germany, the 2024 Champions League playoffs will be broadcast on DAZN and Amazon Prime Video.
DAZN has had the rights to the majority of CL matches since last season, including the 2024 Champions League playoff qualifiers. This means that all Wednesday matches and all Tuesday matches – apart from one – can be watched live on the sports streamer.
