A relaxed summer break? Not in the year 2024! While the best nations in Europe kick off the European Championship in a few days’ time, things are also hotting up in South America.
Before the Copa America begins there shortly, the participants are testing their form for the last time. In my Chile Paraguay betting tip, I’ll tell you what to expect from both teams and why I’m backing a home win here
The days are numbered! From Friday, 24 teams will be competing in Germany to crown the new European champions. But anyone who thinks that there is nothing on offer outside Europe in terms of top-class soccer these weeks is very much mistaken.
A few days after the start of the European Championship, the Copa America is also getting down to business! The groups have been drawn, but before the first matches are kicked off, the final tests await the nations:
Chile are not among the top favorites, but of course La Roja want to get through the preliminary round. Peru, Argentina and Canada have also been drawn in Group A and will start against the Peruvians on June 22.
The Chileans have not had many opportunities to try out this year, with two tests taking place in March. And they were very successful, winning 3:0 against the European Championship participants from Albania.
A few days later, they faced a completely different opponent: the Reds had to, or rather were allowed to, play against the top European nation, the French selection, which featured one star after another.
They lost, but Chile rightly earned plenty of praise in a 3-2 defeat. The favorites fielded the best, whether Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud or Aurelien Tchouameni, the list goes on and on
3:0 against Albania and 2:3 against the Equipe Tricolore, La Roja really can’t be accused of anything offensively. It goes without saying that there will also be a few goals against Paraguay on Wednesday night.
Last year, scoring goals was one of those things. In the six games that were played in the World Cup qualifiers, they only scored three times and did not score at all in four games
However, they managed to score three or more times in three of their four test matches, including the 3:2 friendly win over Paraguay. So we are right in the middle of a direct comparison that, all in all, does not really provide a clear line.
After all, the aforementioned 3:2 was followed by a 0:0, and thus an absolute contrasting program! With three wins and a draw, things have gone very well for La Roja of late
Funnily enough, Chile have won three of their last four test matches against Paraguay by 3:2, which leads me to take a look at exactly this result at Bwin. The odds for this are 29.0, so it couldn’t be more profitable.
Speaking of odds, at our bookmakers, where everything revolves around the upcoming European Championship, the Chileans are clearly ahead, with odds averaging 1.85 to 4.30.
Paraguay have only played one match this year, making it all the more difficult to pigeonhole the team. The 0-0 draw against Peru a few days ago didn’t offer much.
The Guaranies were the better team overall, but missed out on victory in the end. Too bad, because after a not really enjoyable 2023, a success would certainly have done them good
In the World Cup qualifiers, they had won exactly one match against Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Colombia, and it was anything but clear-cut in the 1:0 win against the Bolivians.
0:0, 0:1, 0:1, 1:0, 0:0 and 0:1 again? The results could hardly have been more dismal. Not only was only one goal scored, but the “over 1.5” total was never cracked!
Chile or Paraguay, who is in better form? With just a few days to go before the start of the Copa America, the Guaranies need to put their recent poor form behind them, especially in attack.
Offensively, nothing really works anymore, and most games are very, very low-scoring anyway. The Chileans are anything but flawless, but they are aware of their home advantage and their recent positive record against Paraguay.
In this respect, I assume that the home side will want to present themselves as a really strong unit to their own fans ahead of the Copa, which is why my tip is:
