DEL Playoffs Teams 2025: Who’s in?

Which teams will play in the DEL Playoffs 2025?

Of the 15 teams that play in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), 10 qualify for the 2025 DEL playoffs after the 56-game basic round. That’s two-thirds.

The top six after the basic round are automatically qualified for the quarter-finals.

The other four teams, which have finished in places 7 to 10 in the table, have to go through the pre-playoffs. The two winners from these “qualifying games” are in the quarter-finals of this year’s DEL playoffs and can continue to play for the championship title.

After the 2024/25 DEL regular season, eight of the ten participants in the playoffs have been determined.

ERC Ingolstadt took first place after the regular season. The reigning champions Eisbären Berlin, the Pinguins Bremerhaven, the Mannheim Eagles, EHC Red Bull Munich and the Cologne Sharks also made it into the 2025 DEL playoffs with ease.

The teams that finished the regular season in 7th to 10th place will play in the “pre-playoffs” for the last two playoff tickets.

Modus mit Heimrecht und Best-of-7-Format

The DEL Playoffs mode is anything but complicated. The pairings are based on the final standings in the regular season.

The first-place team after the regular season will face the winner of the pre-playoff round who was worst placed in the main round in the quarter-finals. The second-placed team will face the second-worst placed team after the main round.

The other two quarterfinal series are already known. Here 5 of the regular season play against each other. In the semi-finals and the finals, home advantage is then also determined by which team was better placed in the main round.

While the pre-playoffs are played in a best-of-three format (two wins are needed to advance), the DEL playoff format is best-of-seven from the quarterfinals through the final series. That means four wins are needed in a series to win.

In the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, the seeding after the main round also has a big advantage. The lower-seeded team has home games in games 1, 2, 5, and in a possible decisive 7th game.

Where will the playoff games be broadcast?

The broadcast of the DEL Playoffs 2025 will be shown in full on Magenta Sport. As during the regular season, the pay-TV channel will also broadcast all games live in the postseason.
