Soon, however, the Scottish Premiership will be “halved”. But before that happens, I’ll try to give you a promising Dundee Glasgow Rangers tip, which also includes my observations from the “Old Firm.”
It’s only a few days since the derby that will have the biggest impact on the winner of the domestic league competition in Europe: Rangers v Celtic.
And in this rivalry known as the Old Firm, Rangers pulled off one of the most memorable comebacks in recent years in a ruthless game that saw them go toe-to-toe.
A 2-0 half-time deficit for the city rivals turned into a 3-3 win in the end, which the Gers can live with. But could this intense match just a few days later have cost them the strength they needed to overcome Dundee?
Dundee v Rangers is a catch-up game from matchday 30, which has been postponed by a few weeks. It is so important for the Gers because they could regain top spot shortly before the league is split into two groups.
The match against Ross County will follow shortly afterwards and then the Premiership will be split into a championship and a relegation round. Because yes, this practice was introduced in this part of the UK years ago.
While the championship for Glasgow will therefore not be decided on the next matchday or the one after that, Dundee will have a whole lot more at stake in the upcoming clash
Dundee are in the transition between the Championship and relegation rounds. They are currently just one point ahead of the second-named group of six – reason enough to name the match against Rangers as the game of the year.
DFC, however, were run over 7-1 by Celtic Glasgow a few weeks ago. And even though the last game against Motherwell also ended in defeat (2:3), they managed to celebrate some notable successes in between.
After a 2:2 draw against Kilmarnock, Aberdeen (1:0) and St. Johnstone (2:1) were beaten in equal measure, meaning the “Dark Blues” are quite rightly interested in a place in the Championship group.
However, I don’t want to raise false hopes here. The Rangers have won all of their last eight head-to-head meetings.
But now it’s getting interesting: At Dens Park, the Glaswegians have only been able to finish one of their last seven Premiership outings with a result that would have doomed my Dundee Glasgow Rangers prediction recommended to you for Wednesday.
When the ‘Gers have prevailed in this part of the UK in recent years, it has usually been by the narrowest of margins, with the exception of their last visit in November 2023, when five goals were scored by the hosts (0-5).
It’s also not great news for the home side that Amadou Bakayoko, the striker who has scored three goals in the last two matchdays (1 goal, 2 draws), is suspended.
The Forest Green loanee will therefore be sorely missed – and yet the intense derby against Celtic may have taken its toll on Rangers both psychologically and physically ahead of Wednesday.
On the one hand, such an important game is usually followed by a mental drop in tension and, on the other, the successful comeback and the rough and tumble of their rivals will have sapped their reserves of strength.
If you can muster up the courage, it would certainly not be wrong to go all out and speculate on a win for the home side, given the current attitude of the bookmakers. This is being traded at odds of 9!
Personally, however, I’m hedging against a narrow defeat and deliberately placing a bet of the type “Dundee win with handicap +2”, which should still give me a very nice payout of around 2.00 times the stake.
Conclusion: My Dundee Glasgow Rangers lives from the special circumstances that will accompany this game.
That’s because Rangers have just come through the intense Old Firm, where everything was really demanded of them.
They will also have to manage their strength well for the upcoming championship round, whereas Wednesday’s opponents have everything to play for!
In order to even be counted among this group of six, the “Dark Blues” will most likely have to come out on top. Otherwise, they risk slipping into the relegation group.
My prediction: Dundee win with a +2 handicap
