The race to catch up by AS Roma is far from over! The Red & Yellows still have a lot to do and want to climb several places. Their form is good, and on Sunday they face a team that is below the bottom line.
Although our bookmakers are relatively cautious (the visitors are ahead at an average of 1.95 to 3.75), I have decided to back an away win in my Empoli AS Roma betting tip.
In the Merkur Bets app, I found suitable odds of 1.97.
Admittedly, eighth place doesn’t really sound like Roma’s expectations. But when we consider that the gap to fourth place is only nine points, the dissatisfaction becomes less pronounced.
The capital city club has stumbled into this season, winning just four of its first 16 games. When some were already looking towards the relegation battle, the knot finally burst
Eight wins and three draws, it’s working! It is particularly pleasing that the last four games have all been won, which is exactly what the Red & Yellows needed to fight their way up the table.
Well, three of the four wins were very close, but Roma are in a phase in which only points count. They have conceded seven goals in their last eleven games, so the defense deserves a lot of praise.
It took until the end of January for Roma to win away from home for the first time. Since then, they’ve added two more, which means Roma suddenly have three away wins in a row!
2:1 against Udinese, 1:0 against Venezia, 1:0 against Parma – it’s the story of the horse that only jumps as high as it has to. Three penalties and a direct free-kick? Well, I think it’s fair to say that the three victories were more than fortunate.
The team has scored twelve goals after 13 away games, which shows why little has come out of the game recently.
What happened against Empoli in the first half of the season was also less than pleasing:
Rom lost 2-1 at home, their second defeat in a row. This is also surprising because the Whites had previously won eight matches in a row and remained unbeaten between 2007 and 2024.
The Romans therefore know that they must not suffer a third defeat in a row at the weekend. They are favorites, but if we look at the odds of our tax-free bookmakers together, we can also see that it’s close.
Odds of 2.00 to 3.70 are being called, so the home side have a realistic chance of three points. Empoli would also desperately need them, as the Blues are trapped below the line.
There have only been four wins so far, and the most recent 1-1 draw against Genoa did not spark any storms of enthusiasm. They have lost nine of their last twelve games, with three 1-1 draws in between.
Empoli can lose narrowly, but there are also the kind of defeats that turn out really badly. 0:5 against Atalanta, 0:3 against Udinese, 0:2 against Milan and 1:4 against Juventus Turin, the most recent defeats have usually been pretty bad.
This year, all of the defeats – six in total – have been by at least two goals. It’s a bold bet, but if you want to back Roma to win with a handicap of -1, the odds at Betano are 3.80.
What Empoli find particularly difficult: playing at home! There has only been one measly win, a 1:0 against Como in the fall. Goals? FIVE of them! Eight times the team remained completely pale in offense.
Nevertheless, four home games had more than 2.5 goals, but that’s because Empoli conceded several goals. Nine times, also worth mentioning, the score was 0-0 after the first 45 minutes.
If it goes into the break on Sunday with a goalless draw, Betano will offer you odds of 2.87. As six of Roma’s away games have also had the same result, this bet could pay off.
Can AS Roma continue their upward trend? The results have been really strong for some time now, even if they are sometimes accompanied by a bit of luck. It’s a good thing that the next opponent will be a tough one.
Empoli are significantly worse in all respects, with one win and five points in their own stadium speaking volumes. In fact, the home side’s last defeats were all very clear-cut.
I have therefore decided to place a pure win bet here. The visitors have been quite unlucky away from home recently, but Empoli are simply far too bad. My tip is therefore:
The Romans win!
