The top game of the 7th matchday will take place on Saturday evening at the Mersey. The Toffees welcome the Magpies to Goodison Park.
Why the FA is scheduling last year’s game between the 16th and the 7th at this time is beyond me, but okay. Maybe there will be a huge surprise.
At least in the past few matches, there were always stories to tell. So this time too? My Everton Newcastle tip has the answers.
No question about it, the 2-1 win against Crystal Palace last weekend was a real boost. Until then, manager Sean Dyche’s team had not yet won (1W, 4D).
Many fans were and still are concerned that, as in the previous year, the team will be in a relegation battle. So a win like that was good for the soul.
Especially since the defense was a bit more secure again. After two consecutive league home games in which the Toffees conceded exactly three goals, that was already an improvement.
Up front, they had a very in-form Dwight McNeil, who scored twice after going behind.
But it seems they can’t keep a clean sheet without problems. At least not at the moment. In the pre-season, the Mersey kickers kept a clean sheet in four of the last six games.
In this respect, it can be assumed once again, with regard to the Everton Newcastle betting tip, that both teams could score.
Especially considering the fact that the guests, for their part, have only kept a clean sheet in one of their last 12 Premier League games.
But let’s take a closer look at the Magpies. They actually got off to a good start this season, with three wins and a draw in their first four games.
The fact that they only managed to get one point out of the last two games is certainly something they can live with. After all, they played against Manchester City and Fulham.
The 1-3 defeat at the Cottagers’ ground does, however, reveal a problem with Howe’s team. They still concede too many goals away from home. They have conceded at least two goals three times in the last five away games.
If they manage to keep a clean sheet again since April 2024, the sports betting providers are quite rightly predicting a high odds of over 3.00 for the Everton Newcastle tip.
But let’s stick to the away games. Last December, the Magpies suffered a bitter 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park.
Otherwise, the team’s record looks rather poor, if you ask me. They have only managed two wins in their last 12 away appearances on the Mersey (3W, 7D).

Of course, these are not top teams facing each other, even if the nouveau riche Magpies always like to claim that. This will be a real fight.
The Toffees now have the wind at their backs and want to celebrate their second home win in a row. This could result in a lively game with some good scoring chances.
