FC Basel – Lugano betting tip, prediction & odds 27.07.2024

Super League, Saturday, 27.07.2027 at 20:30

Summer break? We’ll keep it as short as possible! The second matchday in the Swiss Super League is already on the agenda next weekend, and anyone who doesn’t score here will probably have to call it a false start.

This should not really happen to FCB, but they will be facing an opponent against whom they have been struggling for some time. The odds? They are almost identical!

In my FC Basel Lugano betting tip, I’ll tell you why I’m betting offensively and why I have the combination of BTS and over 2.5 goals in mind

Ninth place, eleven wins and 40 points at the end? It was a season to forget for FC Basel, who actually have very different aspirations! All the more important that things go better in 2024/25, at least according to the club’s high hopes.

Basel lost Renato Veiga to Chelsea FC for a lot of money, but they still didn’t go on a big shopping spree. Benie Traore, Martin Soticek, Leo Leroy and Kevin Ruegg were signed, costing a good eight million euros between them

In the end, the core of the team remained together and wanted to draw attention to itself with a successful start to the season. The result? A 2:3 against Lausanne-Sport, exactly what they wanted to avoid!

The score was 0:2 after just 22 minutes, with only Thierry Barry’s two goals being cause for celebration, even though one of them was “only” scored from a penalty. In the end, the fact that Basel were equal in all statistics could not buy them anything either

Last season, Basel conceded almost two goals on average away from home and showed serious defensive weaknesses.

A look back at the previous season reveals that six of the first seven away games saw at least two goals conceded.

Basel fans will naturally be hoping that they can look forward to stable times at home in 2024/25. They haven’t lost at home since the beginning of March 2024, which gives hope

On the other hand, of course, there’s the direct comparison against Lugano. One win from the last eight games, most recently three defeats in a row (one of them after a penalty shoot-out in the cup)? Unsatisfactory!

The last time they won at home was in May 2022, but Basel have now been waiting four games to do so again. Interesting to note: Thierry Barry scored twice in the latest attempt, just like last weekend…

Our bookmakers are of the opinion anyway that the smallest details will probably decide the winner on Saturday. 2.45 to 2.55, the average advantage of the home side is also marginal at Sunmaker.

FC Lugano got off to a slightly more encouraging start this season with a 2:1 win against Grasshoppers from Zurich. They fought back from a goal down and Uran Bislimi secured an important three-pointer for his team in stoppage time

A few days later, Lugano involuntarily became part of a great spectacle in the Champions League qualifiers. The opponent: Fenerbahce, coached by star coach Jose Mourinho for the past few months.

A wild back-and-forth ended in a 3:4 draw for the Turks, but of course Lugano still has every chance of progressing at the end of July. Will it be the second leg that makes the players less focused in Basel on Saturday?

Lugano are the reigning runners-up and have only finished second in the cup. The desire for a title is great, so it is of course good that the club did not have to sell any key players.

Mattia Zanotti, the defensive specialist, is regarded as the transfer king, having joined from Inter Milan for just two and a half million euros. However, as became clear against Fener, he alone cannot raise the defense to a new level

The new season is still young and yet FC Lugano has already caused a stir. The Swiss runners-up seem to have big plans offensively, but at the same time there are too many holes at the back.

Not bad for the neutral spectator, because that could sound like a minor spectacle on Saturday. Basel are in danger of a false start, having conceded three goals on the first matchday.

So the two teams do match up quite well! And that’s why I’ve opted for a relatively offensive strategy, knowing full well that Lugano will soon have to play internationally again. So my tip is:

If both teams score over 2.5 goals
