Europa League, league phase, Thursday, 03.10.2024 at 18:45
English top clubs in the Europa League – that doesn’t always go well due to the lack of motivation! Tottenham Hotspurs want to show in the second-highest international competition that they can also perform well outside the top flight.
They travel to Hungary as clear favorites and will have to withstand the pressure. In my Ferencvaros Tottenham betting tip, I’ll tell you why I wouldn’t underestimate the home side and why I’m keeping an eye on the BTS bet.
Qarabag, Ferencvaros, Alkmaar, Galatasaray, AS Roma, Glasgow Rangers, Hoffenheim and Elfsborg? Well, they’re not Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Paris St. Germain or FC Bayern!
Tottenham Hotspurs are once again competing in the Europa League this season. They haven’t really been able to get to grips with this competition in the past. Will things go better now with the new format?
At least the north Londoners have started with a decent result, winning 3-0 against Qarabag. And that despite Radu Dragusin being sent off after just a few minutes.
The first eleven were not on the pitch right from the start, and many a star was left on the bench. And let’s be honest: The 3:0 may sound incredibly confident at first glance, but it wasn’t.
3:9 corners, 49:51% possession, 10:14 shots? It was actually the opponents who led the way but were ultimately unlucky. So the Spurs struggled at home, now there’s an away game on the program.
Before I go any further into the analysis, I’ll first take a look at the odds. An average of 1.50 meets 8.00, so somehow nobody can imagine that anything will go wrong on Thursday.
The handicap bet of 2:0 alone would give Ferencvaros odds of 1.90 in the Betano app, which already shows how clearly the guests from the English capital are ahead here.
After all, the favorites should go into the second game of the EL group stage with a broad chest, as they won 3-0 against Manchester United in the Premier League a few days ago.
After the 3:1 against Brentford, they finally managed two three-pointers in a row, but with ten points from six rounds, the start can be described as rather mediocre. Anyone who follows Tottenham will be holding their breath for a moment in terms of personnel.
The reason: Heung-min Son is injured! It is still unclear whether the South Korean will manage to get fit in time. Should he not be able to play, Tottenham Hotspurs would be seriously short of substitutes.
Incidentally, they have never met Ferencvaros before. The Hungarians have already played 19 matches against English opponents, with a relatively respectable record of six wins, six draws and seven defeats.
Ferencvaros Budapest have made a name for themselves in recent years, appearing time and again in various international competitions and posing serious problems for one or two big names.
In 2022/23, they reached the round of 16 in the Europa League, but were eliminated by Bayer Leverkusen. How are things looking this season, have the Hungarians got off to a good start?
Unfortunately not! They lost 2-1 at RSC Anderlecht, and a double strike from their opponents in the 60th and 66th minutes (one goal was scored from a penalty) meant that they didn’t even get the one point in the end.
In the qualifying play-offs, by the way, Banja Luka were narrowly knocked out, and a successful penalty shoot-out now ensures that the team can prove themselves in the preliminary round.
In any case, Ferencvaros are encouraged by what is happening in the domestic league. Six games, six wins, two goals conceded – if only the rivals could be mentioned in the same breath as Tottenham Hotspurs!
Will Tottenham play with or without Heung-min Son? Admittedly, a lot stands or falls with the attacker’s involvement. However, it will probably only be decided at short notice whether the attacker can play against Ferencvaros or not.
Of course, the north Londoners also have others who can score goals, but against Qarabag, the English side rather showered themselves to victory. Absolute conviction? I couldn’t see that here, instead a rebellious underdog.
Ultimately, this also means that I believe Ferencvaros will put up a great fight, as word is getting around that Spurs are allowing something to happen. My tip is therefore:
Both teams meet!
