Freiburger Sport-Club almost had a real desired result in the semi-final first leg of the Europa League, but is now still chasing a 2-1 deficit after conceding a last-minute goal.
Even though not a single victory has been achieved in the previous three comparisons with Portuguese opponents, the late blow can still be repaired. In the current EL season, the Breisgau team has not yet dropped a point at home.
However, according to my Freiburg Braga prediction on Thursday, at least two home goals from the Bundesliga team are required for this to remain the case – according to my tip “Both teams to score”, no one will go away empty-handed at the Europa-Park Stadium.
It may seem a little daring that I’m betting on goals on both sides here. After all, Braga have played seven of twelve games without conceding a goal since the start of the league phase – and the home record of the sports club is even more impressive.
Since four of the six home wins have kept their own record clean, they have only conceded goals in front of their own supporters against Genk (5-1) and Basel (2-1) in the competition so far.
However, four goals scored by Braga recently in Seville lead me to conclude that the final battle for the final will not take place without conceding a goal – and one or two Freiburg goals seem to be almost guaranteed here anyway!
Freiburg – Braga Prediction & Betting Tips
Another interesting option is betting on a home win. Freiburg have won all six home games this Europa League season and have an impressive record with just two goals conceded
The strength in their own stadium is a decisive factor for the game. In addition, I turn my gaze to Vincenzo Grifo. The Italian is Freiburg’s linchpin and was already successful in the first leg. A bet on Grifo scoring a goal or providing an assist seems very promising in his current form – and yields odds of 2.90.
Grifo has already been directly involved in eight goals this Europa League season. Only two players in the entire competition have collected more scorer points. His creativity and goal threat make him a key player for Freiburg’s race to catch up.

Our AI tool has also analyzed the game and sees the hosts as having a clear advantage in the Freiburg Braga prediction. The predicted probability of winning for Freiburg is over 50%, while a victory for Braga is only valued at around 24%. A draw is 26% – so a fair odd for the sports club would actually be pretty much exactly 2.00.
According to the algorithm, the expected number of goals is 2.36 goals for the entire game. Freiburg are expected to score an average of 1.42 goals and Braga 0.94 goals. This indicates a rather close result, which further increases the tension. The resulting tip on Under 2.5 goals is not my thing – and at around 1.80 it is only partially attractive.
The Asian Handicap Line, which is -0.5 for Freiburg, is interesting. This means that the Breisgau team must win by at least one goal for a bet on them to be successful. Braga would make a profit in the event of a draw or victory. For Double Chance X2, you get back around 1.95 times the stake.
For the Asian over 2.5 goals, the line is also clearly defined. At least three goals must be scored in the match for the bet to win – odds of 2.00.
These figures underline the offensive power of Freiburg, especially in their home stadium. It will be exciting to see whether the predicted key players can live up to their role as favourites and decide the game in favour of their team.
The best odds for Freiburg vs. Braga
The Freiburg Braga odds roughly reflect my expectations: A home win is considered the most likely result with values around 1.85. This is mainly due to the Breisgau team’s flawless home record in the Europa League this season.
An away win by Braga, on the other hand, is rated as much less likely with odds around 4.33. Despite the success in the first leg, the bookmakers do not trust the Portuguese to defend their title lead without further ado.
A draw, which would be enough for Braga to advance, is in between in terms of ratings. For Freiburg, however, only a win counts to at least force extra time or to move directly into the final. So the pressure is clearly on the home side.
Although a win for Freiburg is likely, the Both Teams to Score bet offers attractive value due to the constant goal threat of both teams. Braga have proven to always be good for a goal away from home, which supports my betting recommendation.
Freiburg vs Braga Match Analysis:
A big night awaits us at the Europa-Park Stadium when Julian Schuster’s team tries to make up for the narrow 2-1 deficit against Braga. The stakes couldn’t be higher, as the winner will face Nottingham Forest or Aston Villa in the final in Istanbul.
Freiburg had little trouble with Genk and Celta Vigo in the previous rounds, scoring eleven goals in four games and conceding just three. But now the biggest test of the season so far is imminent to knock the brave team from Braga out of the competition.
Coach Julian Schuster will rely on his team’s structured, vertical approach in their own stadium. To make up for the deficit, Freiburg will have to dictate the tempo and try to score an early goal to calm the nerves.
Vincenzo Grifo remains the creative engine of Freiburg. His standards and ability to find spaces will be crucial. Maximilian Eggestein’s running work also becomes a decisive factor in disrupting Braga’s rhythm and winning back balls quickly.
On the other hand, Braga is no stranger to hostile environments. In the quarter-finals, the Portuguese shocked Betis Sevilla with a 4-2 victory, after they were already 2-0 down in the meantime. So they know how to survive under pressure away from home.
Carlos Vicens’ men will take up this pressure and lie in wait for gaps. Joao Moutinho’s vision and Pau Víctor’s pace on the counterattack will keep Freiburg’s centre-backs Matthias Ginter and Philipp Lienhart on their toes.
Freiburg Form Check
Freiburg were lucky to stay in the top 7 of the Bundesliga after a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened VfL Wolfsburg. The shared attention could prove costly, but the priority is clearly on the home game against Braga.
Julian Schuster’s team has been extremely successful in European home games this season, winning all six games. They scored 14 goals and conceded only two, which indicates a much better performance than in the first leg.
In the first leg, the South Germans were unlucky when the hosts scored the 2-1 winning goal in the last minute. Mario Dorgeles’ goal in injury time crowned a statistically better performance by the Portuguese, but was still painful for the visitors.
The home advantage of the Breisgau Brazilians is evident both nationally and internationally. In addition to the perfect record in Europe, Freiburg scored an average of 1.81 points per game at home in the Bundesliga, almost twice as many as away (0.94 points).
A prime example of this discrepancy is the first knockout game of the Europa League against Genk. After a 1-0 defeat on the road, Freiburg managed an impressive 5-1 win at home to turn the tide. That shows the strength in front of their own crowd.
The underlying metrics point to a tightly contested game. But the clinical performance of the hosts in their own stadium suggests that this duel is far from over and Freiburg has every chance of a comeback.
Braga Form Check
Braga travel to Breisgau with a narrow lead, but are fully aware of the challenge posed by Freiburg. In addition, history does not speak for the guests, as the last three Portuguese teams that won the first leg from the EL round of 16 onwards were eliminated in the end.
After failing to win three of their last five league games, Braga are in danger of falling out of the top four. The full focus on Europe carries risks, because failure on both levels could end the season in disappointment.
Most recently, there was a 2-1 defeat against Santa Clara and a 1-1 draw at home against Estoril. The form curve is therefore pointing slightly downwards, which could also play into Freiburg’s hands when it comes to the important second leg.
Statistically, the Portuguese achieved similar results at home and away at home, but were much more accurate at home in Europe. The main difference is in the goal yield: 22 goals in 10 home games and 14 in 9 away games.
