Süper Lig, Matchday 31, Monday, 04/28/2025, 7:00 p.m.
Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are (once again) running away at the top, while the battle for the remaining places is raging behind them. Basaksehir’s current winning streak has propelled them forward, and now even third place is a realistic prospect.
On Monday, however, they face a team that is struggling away from home but all the more impressive on their own turf. Accordingly, I’m expecting a close match and will reveal why I’ve opted for the “Under 2.5 goals” bet in my current Göztepe Basaksehir tip.
It’s the same story as last season: Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are simply too strong for the competition. There are 21 points between second and third place, and 17 teams have long since fallen away.
Behind the top two, however, things are much tighter and more exciting. Four clubs are currently in contention for third place, including Basaksehir. And that’s despite the fact that their record of 14 wins, six draws, and ten defeats doesn’t really sound like European football.
The team from the metropolis of Istanbul languished in mid-table for a long time, but now, towards the end of the season, they are picking themselves up. 3-1 against Epyüspor, 1-0 against Konyaspor, 2-0 at Besiktas and 2-1 against Gaziantep – they have won four games in a row!
The streak is particularly commendable given that Besiktas and Eyüpspor are two direct rivals for European qualification. Admittedly, three of the last five goals came from set pieces, two of them from penalties, but no one will be asking about that in the final analysis.
This is the first time Basaksehir has won four games in a row this season. The two away wins at Eyüpspor and Besiktas were particularly pleasing.
Previously, they had only managed three wins in twelve games, so if they had picked up three points on Monday, they would have set a new record of three in a row away from home.
Basaksehir paid dearly for their recent 2-1 win over Gaziantep. Shortly before the end, superstar Krzystof Piatek was sent off with a straight red card, doing his team a disservice.
With 20 goals this season, the former Hertha player is one of the league’s most prolific scorers, and his absence hurts Basaksehir enormously. At least when Piatek was last suspended, his team won without him (2-0 against Rizespor).
With 18 goals in 14 away games, however, Basaksehir are not without sense and reason on the road. How are things looking for Göztepe, and do they enjoy playing against their upcoming opponents?
In the first half of the season, Basaksehir celebrated a clear 4-1 victory. However, having lost three times in a row between 2021 and 2022, they have been warned. It is definitely interesting that there has only been one draw in 16 encounters.
The visitors have to accept that they are not the favorites on Monday. The average odds from our bookmakers with US licenses are 3.30 to 2.15.
And that’s despite the fact that Göztepe are a promoted team and are currently tenth in the table. The Yellow-Reds know themselves why they are not higher up the table: because they play like a relegation team away from home and like a top team at home!
10-10-10 – basically, the record is completely even. Nine of the ten defeats came away from home, with Göztepe winning just once on their travels. But with a home game coming up, the fans will be full of anticipation.
But wait: as strong as it is when a club has lost at home, hasn’t Göztepe been waiting forever for three points? Both statements are correct, because they haven’t won in eleven games!
They have drawn four times in a row at home, with the last three games ending 1-1. So if you’re betting on exactly that result, Bet365 is offering odds of 6.50. You can also use your Bet365 betting credits.
Of course, it doesn’t exactly help Göztepe that three players, Juan, Malcom Bokele, and Koray Günter, are injured. In the last three months, they have only managed to score more than one goal twice.
Göztepe wants to finish the season on a high note, while Basaksehir is determined to finish third. There’s no question that this match will be exciting. The visitors are currently on their first winning streak of the season.
On the other hand, Göztepe can’t really lose at home, but they haven’t had a win in months. Their offense isn’t particularly strong either.
Speaking of offense, Basksehir will be without striker Piatek on Monday. Since I see this as a clear weakness, I have decided on the following tip:
There won’t be more than two goals!
