Juventus Turin vs. Borussia Dortmund – for all Borussia fans, this match will forever be associated with the year 1997.
Back then, BVB won the Champions League with a 3-1 victory (in Munich, of all places) against the Old Lady. The start of the new Champions League season could hardly be more fitting.
And in my Juventus Dortmund tip, I see a good chance that both teams will once again deliver a thrilling fight and that the Bundesliga club will prove to be stubborn despite its underdog role (as it was back then).
The bet “Both teams to score” at odds of around 1.65 at Bet365 suits me perfectly.
In fact, we need to take a closer look at BVB. Although criticism of the staid style of play under coach Niko Kovac continues, the facts speak in favor of Borussia and the Croatian – which of course also factors into my Juventus BVB prediction.
The Ruhr Valley club has scored at least two goals in six of its last eight competitive games. This is no coincidence: after three match days, only Bayern Munich has a more accurate attack (14 goals) than Dortmund (8) in the Bundesliga.
Accordingly, it would be rather surprising if BVB were to remain completely goalless in Turin.

As a first betting alternative, I would like to suggest the “Double Chance X2” bet. The fact is that Dortmund are not easy to beat under Kovac. Since April, the traditional club has lost just two games.
I also find the “draw at half-time” interesting. Assuming that Borussia will hold their own against the favored Turin team at least until half-time, the Bwin app offers strong odds of around 2.20. Keep in mind that two of Juve’s last three games were 0-0 at half-time.
As a risky Juventus BVB tip, I also have the special bet “Dortmund scores in both halves” up my sleeve.
In my opinion, the odds of around 4.15 outweigh the risk, especially since BVB was able to take it easy in its comfortable victory against a decimated Heidenheim team at the weekend. In short: I expect a solid performance from the Bundesliga club.
What you need to consider when betting on Juventus vs. Dortmund
- Juventus has made it through the group stage or league phase in nine of its last ten attempts, but has lost all of its last five knockout matches.
- Borussia Dortmund trailed in only 13.2% of total playing time in the last UEFA Champions League season – only finalist Inter Milan (6.6%) trailed in an even smaller percentage of games.

Juventus form check
No one at Juventus Turin is complaining at the moment. The “Old Lady” has made an excellent start to the new Serie A season and, after three consecutive wins, is second in the table behind defending champions Napoli.
When looking for a conclusive Juventus BVB tip, Juve’s attacking prowess is particularly striking. In fact, the Turin side has the second-best attack in the early stages of the season after Inter Milan (9 goals) with seven goals scored. The recent 4-3 win against Inter fits in all too well with this picture.
However, the successful start to the season was not necessarily on the cards. Juventus did not exactly shine at the Club World Cup, bowing out in the first knockout round with a record of two wins and two losses.
And the Italians did not exactly cover themselves in glory in last season’s Champions League either. They only managed 20th place in the group stage and were particularly harmless in attack (9 goals in 8 games). I expect things to be different against BVB.
Dortmund form check
However, Juventus will face a similarly strong opponent in BVB. In fact, Borussia has stabilized noticeably under Niko Kovac, without setting any highlights in terms of play. Ultimately, however, Kovac’s system is successful – and that’s all that counts in professional soccer.
Dortmund is therefore right on target in the Bundesliga. With two wins and one draw, they are currently in second place in the table and – from today’s perspective – well on their way to qualifying for the Champions League again.
It is also striking that Borussia usually goes all in in their games, despite their controlled style of play. BVB has only drawn twice since April. And it’s fair to say that the 3-3 draw against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga opener, despite being a man down, was rather unfortunate.
Therefore, there is little to suggest that BVB will go down without a fight in Turin. Rather, the Bundesliga club is likely to conjure up a duel on equal terms and cause Turin headaches – perhaps even as it did in 1997.
