Despite slight difficulties, Young Boys Bern have once again secured the championship title in the Swiss Super League. So far so good, but what actually happened behind the scenes?
The first six teams in first to sixth place after the regular season were allowed to compete in the championship round, while the other six teams slipped into the so-called relegation round.
The Grasshoppers from Zurich were also among them. With just eight wins from 33 games and 20 defeats, the result was extremely poor, with no more than second-last place before the play-offs.

The Grasshoppers are in exactly this position and will not relinquish it. After two wins, a 3:2 against Stade-Lausanne and a 2:0 against Yverdon, they drew 1:1 against Luzern and lost 0:1 against FC Basel.
Twice to zero in the last 20 matches, the team really doesn’t make the best impression defensively. Does it make a difference whether the Grasshoppers play at home or away?
Definitely! Twelve of the 19 defeats have been away from home, and only two games have been won. The twelve goals are also anything but pleasing, while this figure has almost doubled at home.
With the last game of the season now taking place away from home, the team can count itself lucky that direct relegation is no longer an issue. It will definitely be fifth place in the play-offs, no more, but also no less
The results against Lausanne-Sport have been very different in recent years, so can we draw any conclusions? 1:1, 5:0 and 0:1, the three duels so far this season could not have turned out more differently.
In any case, it is interesting to note that there has only been one draw in the last 13 head-to-head meetings. If we look at the odds in our sports betting apps, it is striking: The Grasshoppers are not favored in any case.
The odds are averaging 3.70 to 1.85 for the visitors, who will have to stretch themselves to get a win in Lausanne. Are the home side in good form?
At least they have managed to avoid relegation once, and they could even finish third in the play-offs. The results resemble a colorful mix that can hardly be pigeonholed
After four games without a win in a row, they recently won 4:0 against Stade-Lausanne in the derby, but they were also relegated. In my opinion, it is striking that eight of the last ten results have not featured any goals from either side.
At the same time, seven of them also fell short of 2.5 goals. A home game is an advantage in any case, as only four of 16 have been lost. Luzern, Young Boys and St. Gallen all won, and all finished in the top 7 in the regular season.
1:0, 0:0, 0:2? The last three home games were anything but spectacular. Having previously drawn 3-3 against St. Gallen, it should be clear to everyone that almost anything can happen at this club.
Neither Lausanne nor Grasshoppers have a particularly high sporting significance for Tuesday’s match. The hosts could still climb one place, but only if the competition plays along.
They have only lost four times in their own stadium, a fact that is also helped by the fact that the Grasshoppers have won exactly two games away from home. The “double chance 1X” is therefore already a certainty for me.
