Premier League Matchday 12, Saturday, 23.11.2024 at 18:30
After the international break, the Premier League has a real treat in store for us. Manchester City host Tottenham and will be looking to get back to winning ways on this occasion.
The Sky Blues have recently suffered four defeats in a row. Never before under Pep Guardiola have they had such a bad run.
Of course, nothing has been decided in the league yet, but another point loss would see Liverpool, who are currently five points ahead, slip even further away.
However, there is no cheerful sunshine to report from the capital. Spurs, for their part, have also lost their last two competitive matches.
They are also only in tenth place in the table and now want, indeed need, to turn things around. And watch out: they already beat the Citizens in the EFL Cup a few weeks ago.
Will they be able to do it again and get back into the mix? My Manchester City Tottenham betting tip is at least based on a racy game. However, I’d rather not pick a winner…
The prediction of the bookmakers?
As is so often the case in the Premier League, there is a glaring imbalance when it comes to predictions of victory in games involving Guardiola’s team.
This is also the case with the Manchester City Tottenham betting tip, where top bookmakers such as Interwetten not only offer clear three-way odds. The handicap -1 odds for a home win are also only around 2.20.
Analysis: Manchester City vs Tottenham
One reason for this could be the Londoners’ weakness away from home. They have won just two of their last eleven league games away from home (2U, 7N).
This season alone, they have only won once away from home. Since this run of failures began in March, no other Premier League team has suffered as many away defeats as Spurs.
From the home side’s perspective, the past few weeks have been sub-optimal. They have suffered a number of defeats in the UEFA Champions League, the League Cup and the Premier League.
The international break probably came at the right time. Simply to reset everything back to zero. After such breaks, the Skyblues have often been focused on the point: they are unbeaten in 14 games on restarts (12S, 2U).
Ratings analysis
Since the Citizens once lost their last game immediately after an international break against Spurs of all teams, the situation is perhaps not so hopeless for the visitors after all.
Should they pick up at least one point, the bookmaker Bet-at-Home is offering odds of around 2.50 on the Manchester City Tottenham betting tip.
In addition, the Londoners have scored at least twice in each of their last three appearances at the Ethiad Stadium. This time too?
NEO.bet Sportwetten has odds of around 2.50. The truth is that the home side have scored more than 1.5 goals in each of their last five PL home matches.
If the Skyblues score at least twice, the odds are significantly lower, at just over 1.30.
ManCity under pressure
As mentioned at the start, the Skyblues are in a crisis of form. Not since 2006 have they experienced such a long losing streak. Back then, it was six defeats in a row.
Despite Erling Haaland, they still sometimes lack the decisive punch in front of goal. Bernardo Silva is a good example of this. No player shot on goal as often as he did without scoring (17).
It doesn’t help that the Citizens are the only Premier League team to have scored in every game so far. They conceded two goals each against Bournemouth and Brighton.
For tips on goals and bets of all kinds, I can recommend the betting provider Betway – which also offers new customers a first deposit bonus of up to 100 euros!
Which face will Tottenham show?
The fact that Spurs are so far down the table is largely due to their away record. That’s not a problem at home, where they have won four of their six games so far (2N).
They lack consistency not only away from home in general, but also on the road. Close games often do not end in draws, but far too often in favor of the opponent.
In the past six league games, they have won three and lost three. Always nicely alternating so that the fans can always get excited. And quite rightly so, of course.
Since their 4-0 defeat at Newcastle in mid-April, only Wolves (12) have suffered more defeats than Tottenham (10).
Duells between Manchester City and Tottenham have always been entertaining. In pre-season, there was a thrilling 3-3 draw at the same venue with two late goals.
Spurs are also something of a kryptonite for Pep Guardiola. Against no other team has he conceded so many goals (22) and suffered so many defeats (6).
However, the Citizens have only lost two of their last 14 league home games against Tottenham (9S, 3U). Those defeats came in February 2016 and 2022.
Interestingly, Spurs have scored the first goal in each of their last three visits to the Ethiad Stadium. Regardless of the venue, they have scored in seven of the last nine matches!
My Man City Tottenham tip:
In this respect, I don’t think the visitors are completely without a chance. The home side are on fire at the moment, perhaps even more so than Spurs.
Nevertheless, both teams are currently under pressure. Something has to happen going forward here and there so that the recent shaky defenses can at least be balanced out on the scoreboard.
Therefore, my Manchester City Tottenham tip is: Both score and at least three goals will be scored
