Premier League 14th matchday, Wednesday, 12/04/2024 at 8:30 PM
The Premier League continues with Newcastle and Liverpool facing each other on Wednesday evening. What was a top game two years ago is now an uneven duel.
Because after 13 match days, the Magpies are only in the gray midfield of the table. As quickly as the money flowed to the River Tyne, the euphoria seems to have evaporated.
Coach Eddie Howe’s side have not won in the league since the international break (1W, 1D) and have fallen well short of expectations this season.
The visitors, on the other hand, are in a completely different position after their latest victory in the top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City. They now lead the reigning champions by eleven points.
With only eight goals conceded and seven clean sheets in the opponent’s last seven games, it will be difficult for the currently struggling home side to get anything dangerous forward.
Accordingly, my Newcastle Liverpool tip is for advantages for the Reds, although traditionally many goals are likely to be scored in this game.
The betting providers’ forecast?
Although the 11th meets the first here, the balance of power is not as clear as one might expect.
In the Newcastle Liverpool betting tip, there is a relatively high win rate for the Reds. The “both teams to score” prediction shows how evenly matched the game is. Before kick-off, this is around 1.50 at Interwetten.
Analysis: Newcastle vs Liverpool
But still, Newcastle is the underdog in this game. This is partly due to their current home form. They have only won one of their last three home games (2N).
The two defeats are unusual. That’s the same number as in the previous 20 Premier League home games combined (13W, 5D).
The Reds, on the other hand, are in a completely different league after seven competitive wins in a row. Their opponents were by no means casualties.
In the Champions League, they beat Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid comfortably. They also defeated Manchester City on Sunday.
Odds analysis
With this in mind, it is interesting to see whether the Reds can continue their impressive defensive record of four clean sheets from their last five matches when they take on Newcastle.
At Admiralbet’s top betting odds, you will find odds of around 3.00 if they do not concede a goal.
However, it should be noted that the LFC have conceded five of their eight goals so far away from home. On the other hand, the Magpies have only scored one goal in their last three home games.
At the same time, the Reds have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to stage comebacks against United.
In the Premier League, they have won 11 games in which they were behind against Newcastle. If they manage to win from a behind, you can find odds of 6.50 at Betano Sports Betting.
Newcastle against the Wednesday curse
Now that the Premier League is also coming thick and fast, it is all the more important to score points in the English weeks and perhaps get three wins in seven days.
The Magpies have rarely managed that recently. This was particularly due to the midweek games, i.e. those on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Of the past six games of this kind, they have only been able to win one since the beginning of the preseason (1W, 4D). There were two defeats on a Wednesday.

The midweek games, on the other hand, were excellent for the Reds. They have won 16 of the last 18 matches between Tuesday and Thursday (1W, 1D).
In the title race, they have now shaken off one of their closest rivals. Behind them are Arsenal and Chelsea, two teams that I don’t think are currently as consistent.
It is all the more important, also in view of the Mersey-Side derby this Saturday, that Liverpool also win against Newcastle. But they have always looked good at the Tyne in recent games.
Since December 2015, the Magpies have been waiting for a win against the Reds in the Premier League. Since then, there have only been four draws and eleven defeats for them.
Their record at St. James’ Park is particularly bleak. Newcastle have lost five of their last six home games against Liverpool (1U).
The record is also devastating for evening games after 6pm. Of the 15 meetings so far, the LFC has won 11 (3U, 1N).
Mohamed Salah was an important part of that. The Egyptian has scored eight goals and provided six assists in the last 13 meetings with the Magpies.
My Tip:
Even though there has often been plenty of attacking action in this game, I don’t expect a goal fest like in the previous season, when it was a 4-2 for the LFC.
The Magpies are currently out of luck up front and have only won one of the last 26 PL games against league leaders (7W, 28D). They are truly not a favorite-killer.
Since the guests will tend to be in administrative mode, my Newcastle Liverpool tip is: The Reds don’t lose and there are less than 3.5 goals!
