Vitoria Guimaraes and international success? Not a combination for the present or the recent past! The Portuguese started as outsiders in our UEFA Conference League tips, so what they have achieved since then is all the more impressive.
They travel to Switzerland on Thursday unbeaten and, lo and behold, the favorites’ stamp is being pressed on them. In my St. Gallen Guimaraes tip, I will now tell you why I am thinking offensively and have an “over 2.5 goals” in mind here.
Can anyone beat anyone in the Conference? It almost seems that way, although with Chelsea FC and Legia Warsaw, there are two high-flyers who have not yet given up a single point!
Behind them, a number of teams are fighting for the other six places that lead directly to the knockout phase. Be honest: we didn’t really expect Vitoria Guimaraes in this part of the table!
The Primeira Liga representative is doing more than well, with three wins and a draw. They kicked off with a 3-1 win over Celje, followed by two 2-1 victories against Djurgarden and Mlada Boleslav.
The series was only broken against Astana, when they only managed a 1-1 draw. The Portuguese team was even lucky here, because they equalized just a few minutes before the end and thus avoided their first defeat in the competition.
Small blemish: Guimaraes has never gone through a game without conceding a goal, there is exactly one in each game. It’s a good thing that our top provider Interwetten has just the right bet for this.

The first win finally came in the 2-1 victory against Larne, but they had to settle for just a point again in the 2-2 draw against Topola. All in all, they have conceded a whopping 13 goals in just four games, which is far too many!
Can Guimaraes take advantage of this and score at least twice themselves? I take a quick look back at Interwetten and see: You can get odds of 2.10 if you go with the tip “Over 1.5 goals Guimaraes”.
Sometimes the Swiss concede three goals before half-time, in other matches the team collapses after the break and the opponent scores four times. At least they always score at least two own goals.
Interwetten says: At least two goals on Thursday, we’ll give odds of 2.30! Does it matter that St. Gallen have been in crisis in the Swiss Super League for months?
They have only won one of their last twelve matches, and that was an away game against Grasshoppers. They have not celebrated a goal at home since the end of September, across all competitions.
Vitoria Guimaraes is one of the positive surprises of this Conference League season! The Portuguese are unbeaten, despite conceding a goal per game. Speaking of goals conceded: St. Gallen is an absolute specialist here!
The Swiss have conceded a whopping 13, which even their own offense, which always scores twice, sometimes can’t compensate for. Well, so two teams are facing each other here that are not exactly involved in boring games.
