He was the preferred candidate of then FC coach Steffen Baumgart, but Steffen Tigges has not been able to assert himself at 1. FC Köln since his arrival on the Rhine in the summer of 2022. The 26-year-old has not made it into the starting eleven once so far this season, making just seven brief appearances. Like his fellow striker Sargis Adamyan, he has not been able to impose himself on the team, and in winter there are many indications that they will part ways before his contract expires in June 2026
