A title would be nice once again! Tottenham Hotspurs know that their competition in the race for the championship is once again incredibly strong. The start? It’s been relatively bumpy.
Spurs have a relatively clear lead going into this weekend’s home game, but as I don’t think their form is too stable, I’ll tell you why I’m backing both teams to score in my Tottenham Brentford tip!
Tottenham Hotspur’s goals for the season? Admittedly, they are very difficult to formulate. The championship is likely to be very, very difficult, teams like Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City are probably too far away.
Why do I come to this assumption? Quite simply because there have already been two defeats recently. 0:1 against Arsenal and 1:2 against Newcastle, the close duels went to the opponents.
Once has been won, and that was 4:0 against Everton. You’re almost inclined to say: Everton? Somehow everyone is beating this opponent at the moment! The Toffees are without a point and the 4:13 goals they have scored show that they are overstretched.
Against Leicester, the north Londoners couldn’t get past 1:1 either. So what can you make of this start to the season? It’s clear that there is no satisfaction, but the crucial question is rather how things can improve.
The team didn’t score at all against Arsenal, and the one goal against Newcastle came in the form of an own goal. Is it not possible without Harry Kane, who has been scoring like a conveyor belt for FC Bayern for a good year now?
Heung-min Son was the top scorer in 2023/24, but Kane likes to double his 17 goals. Of course, the fans would have loved to see their team get off to a similar start to a year ago.
The Spurs started with eight wins and two draws, but they are currently a long way off such a run. Does it at least help that the clash against Brentford is taking place in their own stadium?
Tottenham started last season with four home wins in a row. That is no longer possible after the 0:1 against Arsenal. Brentford are basically an opponent who can hurt the north Londoners.
3:2 and 2:2, the duels last season were more than close. 2:2, 1:3, 2:2 and 3:2, the last direct encounters were anything but boring. No wonder that the “Over 2.5 goals” bet in the Betano app is only 1.45 this time.
Speaking of odds, when it comes to the question of who is favored in this duel, the name Tottenham inevitably comes up. Spurs go into the match with average odds of 1.55, while Brentford pick up 5.50.
The Bees will be desperate to do better than last season, as they won just ten times in 2023/24 and went home with a whopping 19 defeats. Has it been a successful start?
Somewhat better than Spurs, actually! The two home games were won 2:1 against Crystal Palace and 3:1 against Southampton, but unfortunately there have been no points away from home.
But if you start away from home with games against Liverpool and Manchester City, you don’t have to feel bad if you don’t get any points. 0:2 against the Reds and 1:2 at City, Brentford even sold themselves very well
What happens away from home? With Tottenham and Manchester United, THAT really is an absolute hammer program to start with. Of course, it’s still striking that there were goals conceded in every game in 2024/25.
Even last season, the Bees only conceded seven times, conceding a total of 65 goals. Back then, however, they managed not to lose in the first four rounds.
The pressure is already mounting again at Tottenham Hotspurs, as the north Londoners simply cannot find their form. Is the team now even sinking into mediocrity?
Brentford simply want to have a quiet season in 2024/25 and have made a decent start. They held their own against both Liverpool and Manchester City, so conceding goals is completely normal.
In a direct duel, I can’t imagine that anyone will get away without making mistakes. Logically, this leads me to recommend the following tip:
Tottenham and Brentford to score!
