During the final phase of the 2023/24 season, Roma management had already expressed a clear desire to work with interim coach Daniele de Rossi beyond the summer. That is now the case: AS announced that the 40-year-old club icon had signed a three-year contract until June 2027. De Rossi took over from José Mourinho in January and led the Giallorossi to fifth place in Serie A and the semi-finals of the Europa League. De Rossi himself played for AS Roma from 2004 to 2019 and scored 43 goals in 459 league games. He made 117 appearances for Italy and became world champion with the Squadra Azzurra at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
