Women’s Olympic soccer tournament, semi-final, Wednesday, 06.08.2024 at 18:00
The fearful opponent – again! The German women’s soccer team made it to the semi-finals at the Olympic Games in Paris, but a real feat of strength lies behind them.
On Tuesday, for the second time in this tournament, they will face a team that is not their cup of tea. But: This is exactly the team that had to work hard in the quarter-finals. In my USA Germany women’s betting tip, I’ll tell you why I’m once again favoring the Americans in a rather defensive match!
Four quarter-finals – three times no decision within 90 minutes! The women’s soccer tournament couldn’t be more exciting in its decisive phase, and the German team was also involved in the drama.
But first things first. The German women are definitely among the favorites for a medal in Paris, having even won gold at the last Olympic Games in 2016 and always winning bronze from 2000 to 2008
After the preliminary round, we didn’t really know where Horst Hrubesch’s team really stood. They had started with a 3-0 win against Australia, a game that was actually very promising.
However, this was followed by the match against the USA, who will also be their current opponents in the semi-finals. They lost 1:4, and their defensive performance was particularly poor
After the final 3:1 against Zambia, Germany prepared for the quarter-finals, knowing full well that their performance against Canada might not be enough. Goals? There were none after 90 or 120 minutes.
The Canadians looked more lively and created more chances. In the penalty shoot-out, however, it was Ann-Kathrin Berger who emerged as the hero. The keeper had already made strong saves during the game, but then she also saved two Canadian penalties.
And if that wasn’t enough, she also converted the decisive one herself! So Germany went through to the semi-finals, but they will know: It wasn’t exactly a gala performance, so their chances against the USA are likely to be extremely slim.
While there were no complaints about a lack of fighting spirit, there was very little going forward. The German team also knows very well: we’ve played in four Olympic semi-finals, and three times it wasn’t enough!
In 2004 in Athens, it was even Team USA that buried Germany’s gold dreams, winning 2:1 after extra time. In general, the direct comparison is anything but pleasing
Five wins, seven draws, 26 defeats and 35:78 goals – that doesn’t sound very promising for Tuesday. Of course, word of this has also reached our bookmakers.
Even before the match in the group stage, the German women had to live with the role of underdogs, and it’s the same this time. The odds are averaging 1.95 to 3.80 for a win after 90 minutes
Of course, you can also place your bet on the team advancing. Not only at Betano there is a 1.50 to 2.50 including betting bonus, of course the US girls are also in front here. And that’s despite the fact that they didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory in their quarter-final.
Nothing happened for a long time against Japan and the Americans’ dominance was not translated into goals. In the end, it was Trinity Rodman who took heart in the 105th minute and scored a dream goal to secure a place in the semi-finals.
The result was not necessarily to be expected, as the USA’s offense had been very convincing in the previous matches. 3:0 against Zambia, 4:1 against Germany, 2:1 against Australia and many more chances, then suddenly everything changed against Japan
The team has lost just once this year, and that defeat came without any consequences in the final group game of the Gold Cup. Can this team even be beaten?
Only in 2020 did the team fail to survive an Olympic semi-final, losing to Canada in the round of the best four. 1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012 – if you win gold four times, you can only win on Tuesday!
A German medal at the Olympics is getting closer! The women’s soccer team are in the semi-finals, but had to lose a lot of energy against Canada and now face their fearsome opponents.
The USA didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory against Japan either; offensively they fell short of expectations, just like the Germans. The games were very different to the 4:1 win by the Americans in the preliminary round.
Of course, I would like to say that Germany’s chances are extremely good! But in terms of quality, I think the USA are simply ahead, also because of the direct comparison. And that’s why I’ve decided on the following tip:
After 90 minutes with a maximum of three goals, the USA are still in the game!
My tip: Double chance 1X & Under 3.5 goals
