EM Predictions Who will progress to the last 16 of the European Championship? – Predictions & Odds
We have the 16 teams for the knockout phase of Euro 2024, now the big question: “Who will progress to the round of 16?” In addition to the absolute top favorites, none of whom were eliminated in the group stage, there are also a few underdogs who want to surprise.
Georgia, for example, made it through to the last eight after a 2:0 win against the mixed team from Portugal. Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania were also anything but seeded nations for the round of 16. However, our European Championship betting providers don’t see many chances of these teams reaching the quarter-finals.
Speaking of which, in this overview I show you the best odds from the “Who will progress?” market for all matches in the round of 16. You can play the bets individually with the respective bookmakers, but you can also combine them all or make a system bet out of them. The round starts on Saturday at 18:00 with the match between Switzerland and Italy:
There are already some cracking matches in the European Championship round of 16. Right from the start, I expect a very close affair between the strong Swiss and the rather unconvincing defending champions from Italy. Germany and Denmark will meet for three hours.
While England and Spain have to face Slovakia and Georgia on Sunday, things could get more exciting on Monday when France meet Belgium. Two nations, peppered with many top stars, are likely to deliver a thrilling battle.
Portugal against Slovenia and Romania against the Netherlands, on the other hand, are the clear favorites. The final act will be another thrilling treat. Group D surprise group winners Austria take on Turkey
EM Prediction: Who will advance? Switzerland – Italy, Saturday, 29.06.2024 at 18:00
Mattia Zaccagni’s goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time against Croatia was, in hindsight, crucial to their progression in the tournament. In fact, otherwise they would only have finished fifth in the table of the best third-placed teams in the group.
Italy thus secured second place behind Spain in Group D in a tournament in which the team had yet to really gather momentum. The defending champions, who are still in transition, are struggling at many times.
Switzerland will be a tough opponent, having almost snatched group victory away from hosts Germany. A well-coordinated team that always looks for its own luck on the offensive, plays aggressively, but always leaves something to be desired at the back. In the end, I see even more quality in the defending champions.
My expert tip: Italy advance to the quarter-finals
EM prediction: Who will progress? Germany – Denmark, Saturday, 29.06.2024 at 21:00
Germany secured group victory against Switzerland at the last second. After a brilliant start against the defenceless Scots (5:1), the DFB team had more difficulties against Hungary (2:0) and Switzerland (1:1).
Denmark will also be an unpleasant opponent, with a compact defense and no unknown names up front. They even reached the semi-finals at the last European Championships and almost made it to the final against England at Wembley.
The Scandinavians are still unbeaten, but at the same time still without a win. All three games against Slovenia (1:1), England (1:1) and Serbia (0:0) ended in draws. Germany now face a nation with a strong offense that is too big for the Danes!
My expert tip: Germany advance to the quarter-finals
EM Betting: Who will advance? England – Slovakia, Sunday, 30.06.2024 at 18:00
England have the best squad at the European Championship alongside France in terms of market value, but don’t play good soccer. Gareth Southgate’s side created only a few top chances in Group C, but ultimately bagged the group win with five points.
Will this minimalist approach also be enough in the knockout phase? At least England have only conceded one goal. Slovakia are not known for their attacking power and are likely to struggle.
But the Slovaks can win against big nations, as they proved in their 1-0 win over Belgium. In the end, however, I expect the bigger soccer nation to come out on top.
My expert tip: England advance to the quarter-finals
EM Prediction: Who will advance? Spain – Georgia, Sunday, 30.06.2024 at 21:00
The odds are extremely low, but for me it is still a top European Championship tip, especially if it is included in a good combination bet. Spain advances to Georgia, in my opinion the three-time European champions are the biggest favorites in all round of 16 pairings.
Started with a strong 3-0 win over Croatia, followed by a dominant performance against Italy (1-0) and even the B-Guard was enough for another three points against Albania (1-0).
A mixture of strong compactness, maximum control of the game and dangerous attacking players makes Spain a very strong national team. Georgia qualified for the European Championship and the round of 16 at the last moment, but the fairytale is likely to end now.
My expert tip: Spain advances to the quarter-finals
EM betting: Who will advance? France – Belgium, Monday, 01.07.2024 at 18:00
The most high-profile round of 16 match will take place on Monday evening between France and Belgium. However, the nation led by Kylian Mbappe has shown little in the group stage. In fact, Les Bleus have only managed one goal, with the Austrians scoring the 1-0 winner for France themselves.
This was followed by a clean sheet against the Netherlands without Mbappe, who was then allowed to return for the third match against Poland, who had already been eliminated, and initially put his nation ahead from the spot. In the end, it was only enough for a 1-1 draw and second place in the group.
Belgium were booed by their own fans after a weaker game against Ukraine. It would have been a hair’s breadth away from elimination if Ukraine had taken advantage of one of their top-class opportunities. Despite the advanced age of some of the players, I don’t think Belgium have the team maturity they need to beat France.
My expert tip: France advance to the quarter-finals
EM 2024 Prediction: Who will advance? Portugal – Slovenia, Monday, 01.07.2024 at 21:00
Portugal played strong soccer against the Czech Republic (2:1) and Turkey (3:0). Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now 39 years old and already played in the 2004 European Championship, still cuts a fine figure in a leading role. However, he was hardly able to shine in the 2-0 defeat against Georgia.
However, head coach Roberto Martinez also rotated his squad eight times before the final match in order to rest a few players as the group winners were already certain. I would therefore definitely not overrate the defeat against Georgia.
Slovenia, like Denmark, reached the round of 16 with three draws and impressed above all with their commanding basic order in the game. In the end, the Portuguese team’s versatile and sometimes very fast-paced play should make the difference. At Winamax you will find a great free bet offer for the European Championship!
My expert tip: Portugal advance to the quarter-finals
EM Prediction: Who will advance? Romania – Netherlands, Tuesday, 02.07.2024 at 18:00
At least: The Netherlands were part of arguably the best European Championship match so far. In the 3:2 defeat against Austria, the two offensively strong footballing nations had a real battle on their hands. Austria even ended up winning the group, leaving Holland in third place.
However, the Netherlands were mercifully beaten by Romania in the round of 16. In the curious Group E, in which all teams had four points and goal difference ultimately determined the positions, Romania laid the foundations with a 3-0 win over Ukraine.
In any case, the Romanians, who have already finished the qualifiers in first place and have only lost two of their last 18 international matches, should not be underestimated. However, it will be damn difficult against the Dutch mega-offense.
My expert tip: The Netherlands advance to the quarter-finals
EM Betting: Who will advance? Austria – Turkey, Tuesday, 02.07.2024 at 21:00
Austria was considered the secret favorite by many experts before the start of the European Championship. Even without star central defender David Alaba, who is only there as moral support due to injury, the country is delivering a strong tournament.
Like Turkey, Austria picked up six points, but the ÖFB team performed more convincingly. In any case, Austria have the perfect winning combination of compactness when playing against the ball, experience and clarity in moments of forward play.
I don’t see Turkey at this level, who may produce individual moments of brilliance but can’t consistently maintain their high level of play. Once again, the keyword “maturity” applies here, which Austria definitely have with head coach Ralf Rangnick.
My expert tip: Austria advance to the quarter-finals
