After defeating Salzburg 2-1, they have their next big game just four days later. In the ÖFB Cup final, TSV Hartberg awaits – an opponent that is absolutely beatable on paper and a huge opportunity for the Carinthians.
After 13 years in the Bundesliga, they could finally celebrate their first major title. A real springboard for the club to establish itself at the top of Austrian soccer in the long term. The dream lives on!
While Wolfsberg is now unbeaten in seven competitive games and has successfully held its own against Sturm Graz (1-1), Rapid Vienna (5-1), and Salzburg (2-1 and 1-1) during this period, TSV Hartberg is doing well, but not outstandingly so.
The club from Styria is unlikely to be relegated, but winning the relegation group seems increasingly unlikely. Hartberg is now focusing all its attention on a single game – the ÖFB Cup final!
And it’s a big one: a win would see them qualify for the Europa League for the first time in their history. No wonder they have been meticulously preparing for this highlight for weeks!
In my opinion, a direct comparison speaks volumes about where Thursday’s game is likely to end up. Wolfsberg won 3-0 at the beginning of March – and that was away in Styria.
This is a clear indication that the ÖFB Cup is likely to be in the WAC trophy cabinet very soon.
However, WAC will not be able to capitalize on home advantage on Thursday, even if most bookmakers list them as the nominal home team in their respective betting offers.
The final will be played in beautiful Klagenfurt, on neutral ground.
Speaking of bookmakers, the current Wolfsberg Hartberg odds from the leading bookies give the Carinthians an average of 1.73 as favorites and TSV around 4.60 as clear underdogs.

But at the end of the day, WAC is simply in a better position to come out on top here. After all, they have been playing exclusively against the crème de la crème of Austrian soccer for weeks. That sharpens the team in all areas!

However, I still don’t believe there will be another sensation in Klagenfurt on Thursday, as WAC are simply too focused and determined for that.
For the very risk-averse among you, I would recommend the option “Wolfsberg wins the ÖFB Cup” at odds of around 1.33, even though I think the Carinthians will have it wrapped up in 90 minutes.
As for the classic goal markets such as the famous “over/under 2.5 goals” line, I honestly don’t have a clear preference.
Both options have roughly the same odds of 1.90, and I couldn’t say which way the game will go.
Nevertheless, the tendency is more towards “over,” because after all, the 2.5-goal mark has been broken in 8 of the last 10 direct duels.
Conclusion: I agree with the bookmakers that Wolfsberger will win this match.
They have just beaten a weakened RB Salzburg 2-1, after holding the Mozart city team to a 1-1 draw a few days earlier.
Hartberg, on the other hand, is naturally motivated to the tips of their toes, but in the relegation group they have been lacking experience against a comparably strong opponent like WAC for weeks. That will come back to haunt them!
